In 2016, 10 universities launched a Networked Improvement Community (NIC) aimed at increasing the number of scholars from Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) populations entering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) faculty careers. NICs bring together stakeholders focused on a common goal to accelerate innovation through structured, ongoing intervention development, implementation, and refinement. We theorized a NIC organizational structure would aid understandings of a complex problem in different contexts and accelerate opportunities to develop and improve interventions to address the problem.

In a process called active electrolocation, animals are able to detect and analyse objects in their environment, which allows them to perceive a detailed electrical picture of their surroundings even in complete darkness. The African mormyrid fish Gnathonemus petersii can not only detect nearby objects, but in addition can perceive other properties such as their distance, their complex electrical impedance, and their three-dimensional shape.

This study was conducted to identify enzyme systems eventually catalysing a local cerebral metabolism of citalopram, a widely used antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor type. The metabolism of citalopram, of its enantiomers and demethylated metabolites was investigated in rat brain microsomes and in rat and human brain mitochondria. No cytochrome P-450 mediated transformation was observed in rat brain.
