Article Synopsis
  • Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle strength and mass, which this study aimed to understand in relation to toxicity from immunotherapy in melanoma patients.
  • Researchers measured psoas muscle size via CT scans in 75 patients, assessing the relationship between sarcopenia (defined by the psoas muscle index) and treatment-related toxicity.
  • The findings revealed that while 44% of patients experienced toxicity, pretherapeutic sarcopenia did not significantly predict immune-mediated toxicity, although those with severe side effects had lower psoas muscle index values.
