Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been linked to changes in DNA methylation levels, which can, in turn, alter transcriptional activity. However, most studies for epigenome-wide associations between T2D and DNA methylation comes from cross-sectional design. Few large-scale investigations have explored these associations longitudinally over multiple time-points.

Background: Data suggest an association between positron emission tomography/CT (PET/CT) metabolic metrics and tumor microenvironment in several malignancies, and a potential role of PET/CT to monitor response to immunotherapy.

Objective: To evaluate the correlation between tumor loco-regional extension and tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte infiltration in locally advanced cervical cancer prior to concurrent chemo-radiotherapy.The secondary objective was to assess the association between tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and PET/CT metabolic metrics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the effectiveness and long-term survival of minimally invasive surgeries (laparoscopy and robot-assisted laparoscopy) for early-stage ovarian cancer compared to traditional open surgery, with limited long-term data available prior to this research.
  • Conducted across six institutions, the study included 140 patients, revealing that 19.2% were upstaged to advanced cancer and the average operative time was longer for robot-assisted laparoscopy than traditional laparoscopy.
  • Findings showed similar oncological outcomes for both laparoscopic techniques with an overall survival rate of 88.6% and disease-free survival at 79.3%, indicating that minimally invasive surgical staging offers comparable results to open surgery.*

Objective: The objective of the present study was to define and validate an anastomotic leak prognostic score based on previously described and reported anastomotic leak risk factors (OVA-LEAK: https://n9.cl/ova-leakscore) and to establish if the use of OVA-LEAK score is better than clinical criteria (surgeon's choice) selecting anastomosis to be protected with a diverting ileostomy.

Material & Methods: This is a retrospective, multicentre cohort study that included patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery for primary advanced or relapsed ovarian cancer with colorectal resection and anastomosis between January 2011 and June 2021.

Background: Procalcitonin (PCT) and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) are useful biomarkers to differentiate bacterial from viral or fungal infections, although the association between them and co-infection or mortality in COVID-19 remains unclear.

Methods: The study represents a retrospective cohort study of patients admitted for COVID-19 pneumonia to 84 ICUs from ten countries between (March 2020-January 2021). Primary outcome was to determine whether PCT or CRP at admission could predict community-acquired bacterial respiratory co-infection (BC) and its added clinical value by determining the best discriminating cut-off values.
