Palliative Care for Newborns in India: Patterns of Care in a Neonatal Palliative Care Program at a Tertiary Government Children's Hospital.

Neonatal palliative care is a specialized area within children's palliative care, which focusses on the needs of infants with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Nearly one quarter of global neonatal deaths occur in India, where neonatal palliative care evidence is limited. This study describes the development and implementation of a neonatal palliative care program within a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at a government hospital, describing the implementing an 8-month pilot palliative care program for neonates, including the patterns of care, and barriers and enablers of success.

An Early Presentation of Spontaneous Intestinal Perforation in a Very Low Birth Weight Neonate: A Case Report.

Pneumoperitoneum is typically caused by breached hollow viscera and necessitates surgical intervention. This may have various etiologies, including spontaneous, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and obstruction. In these cases, spontaneous intestinal perforation (SIP) is a unique clinical entity with a better outcome than newborns with NEC-related intestinal perforation.

An Unusual Presentation of Extremely Early Neonatal Cirrhosis in Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome: A Case Report.

Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, haematological dysfunction, and skeletal abnormalities are the three clinical characteristics of the rare inherited bone marrow failure syndrome (IBMFS), known as Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (SDS). Cirrhosis at a neonatal age is uncommon and is typically not documented, as in neonatal presentation. Here, we present a case of SDS in which bi-cytopenia with macro-nodular cirrhosis emerged before the age of one month.

Macronutrient composition of term and preterm human milk of different socio economic groups.

Assessment of the nutritional composition of Human Breast Milk (HBM) is important to understand its sufficiency as the sole nutrient source in infants. The present study is aimed to analyze the proximate composition along with total amino acid and fatty acid profile in term and preterm HBM of different socio economic status. This cross sectional study included, 120 lactating mothers with term or preterm gestation from maternity hospitals located in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Supporting Immunization Uptake during a Pandemic, Using Remote Phone Call Intervention among Babies Discharged from a Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) in South India.

COVID-19 has impacted children's immunization rates, putting the lives of children at risk. The present study assesses the impact of phone-call counseling, on immunization uptake during the pandemic. Families of babies discharged from the SNCUs in six government centers in three South Indian states were recruited.
