Extradigital Glomangioma of the Cutaneous Chest Wall.

Glomus tumors (GTs) are rare benign tumors as a result of hyperplasia of glomus body. GT most commonly involves the subungual areas and rarely involves extra-digital sites. The clinical presentation of a glomus tumor is a triad of symptoms consisting of pain, cold intolerance, and pinpoint tenderness.

TLR2 and AP-1/NF-kappaB are involved in the regulation of MMP-9 elicited by heat killed Listeria monocytogenes in human monocytic THP-1 cells.

Background: MMP-9 is crucial for a normal immune response, but excessive release of this enzyme leads to severe tissue damage. Listeria monocytogenes (LM) is an opportunistic food-borne pathogen causing listerosis, meningitis and sepsis. Heat killed Listeria monocytogenes (HKLM) activates immune system and leads production of cytokines and chemokines.

Registered blindness and low vision in Kuwait.

Aim: To estimate the incidence rates and major causes of registered blindness and low vision in Kuwait.

Methods: Data on age, gender and cause of blindness and low vision were collected from the Visual Disability Committee while evaluating Kuwaiti citizens applying for a blindness allowance from January 2000 to December 2004. Criteria for legal blindness in Kuwait are visual acuity 6/60 or less in the better eye with best possible correction or a visual field less than 20 degrees around the central fixation point.

Primary hepatic carcinoid tumor.

Objectives: To describe a rare case of primary carcinoid tumor of the liver and its management.

Clinical Presentation And Interventions: A 44-year-old Nigerian male presented with a big inoperable liver mass, which proved to be a carcinoid tumor by fine needle aspiration cytology. Extensive search for a primary lesion including laparotomy and peroperative ultrasound failed to find a primary lesion in the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas.

Basic gait parameters: a comparison of reference data for normal subjects 20 to 29 years of age from Kuwait and Scandinavia.

This study obtained measurements of the spatiotemporal gait parameters of healthy young adult Kuwaiti subjects from both genders and compared the data to those collected in a similar study performed in Sweden. Thirty healthy subjects volunteered to participate in the study (which included being asked to walk at their "free," "slow," and "fast" self-selected speeds). We collected the spatiotemporal gait data using an automated system.
