Melatonin affects the expression of microRNA-21: A mini-review of current evidence.

Melatonin (MLT) is an endogenous hormone produced by pineal gland which possess promising anti-tumor effects. Anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties of MLT, along with its immunomodulatory, proapoptotic, and anti-angiogenic properties, are often referred to the main mechanisms of its anti-tumor effects. Recent evidence has suggested that epigenetic alterations are also involved in the anti-tumor properties of MLT.

MicroRNA and gynecological cancers: Focus on miR-195.

Different cancer types have been shown to have down-regulated expression levels of miR-195 as an anti-tumor agent. MiR-195 family members can inhibit cancer cell proliferation, angiogenesis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastases, immunosuppression, glycolysis, drug resistance, and cancer stem cell development by targeting the 3'-UTR of the mRNA of different pro-tumor genes. MiR-195 identified as a tumor suppressor miR in a variety of cancers, most notably gynecological malignancies such as cervical, endometrial, and ovarian carcinoma.

The efficacy and safety of subcutaneous continuous local infiltration analgesia with ropivacaine in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty: a comparative study.

Background: Continuous local infiltration analgesia (CLIA) can be administered via intraarticular or periarticular techniques in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The purpose of this investigation was to retrospectively report a single-center experience of epidural analgesia with subcutaneous CLIA versus epidural analgesia without CLIA among patients undergoing TKA.

Methods: This single-center retrospective study was conducted in Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: Glomus tumors are rare and often benign vascular lesions that present classically in the subungual region of the hand. Nonetheless, presentations in atypical sites have been reported over the years. However, the classic symptoms of typical glomus tumors are often absent in tumors of atypical sites.

The correlation between emotional intelligence and self-esteem in patients with intestinal stoma: A descriptive-correlational study.

Aim: Patients with intestinal stoma would experience some periods of psychological disorders such as self-esteem disturbances. Self-esteem is one of the most important factors affecting the patient's mental health. It is suggested that factors such as emotional intelligence could be related to self-esteem.
