Purpose: To assess the effects of modifying head position and of static ocular counter-rolling (OCR) on abduction and adduction in saccadic eye movements using a head-mounted video-oculographic device.

Study Design: A clinical observational study.

Methods: The peak velocities and amplitude gains of visually guided 12° saccades were binocularly measured in 21 healthy volunteers with their heads in the upright vertical (0°) and horizontal (± 90°, bilateral side-lying) postures, and in 6 participants with their head positions bilaterally tilted by 30°.

Purpose: The objective of this study is to estimate the area of the Foveal Avascular Zone (FAZ) from B-scan OCT images using machine learning algorithms.

Methods: We developed machine learning models to predict the FAZ area from OCT B-scan images of eyes without retinal vascular diseases. The study involved three models: Model 1 predicted the FAZ length from B-scan images; Model 2 estimated the FAZ area from the predicted length using 1, 3, or 5 horizontal measurements; and Model 3 converted the FAZ area from pixels to mm2.

Article Synopsis
  • The Japan Society for the Study of Obesity advises aiming for a 3% weight loss over 3-6 months, but the impact of rapid weight loss on body composition is not fully understood.
  • A study focused on obese individuals used a combination of a low-carb diet, exercise, and medication to achieve a 3-5% weight loss, resulting in significant reductions in visceral fat and improvements in various health markers.
  • The results showed that moderate weight loss can effectively reduce harmful fat while preserving lean muscle, leading to better health outcomes like improved blood pressure and glucose levels, although some measures of insulin resistance didn't show significant changes.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate the occurrence of hyphema (bleeding in the anterior chamber) after PRESERFLO MicroShunt surgery in glaucoma patients and its connection to the tube insertion position.
  • Out of 66 eyes reviewed, 23 experienced hyphema, equating to a 35% occurrence rate, with bleeding observed during surgery in 8 cases.
  • Despite the high frequency of hyphema, all cases resolved within weeks with stable intraocular pressure and visual acuity, highlighting the need to inform patients about this risk before surgery.
