Respiratory health among bleachery workers exposed to ozone and chlorine dioxide.

Objectives: This study investigated the possibility of occupational exposure to ozone increasing the risk of obstructive airway disease among bleachery workers. : Bleachery workers (N = 129) from two Swedish pulp mills using ozone for bleaching were studied together with referents (N = 80) from adjacent paper mills. The pulp mills had previously used chlorine dioxide as the bleaching agent.

Isodicentric 7p, idic(7)(q11.2), in acute myeloid leukemia associated with older age and favorable response to induction chemotherapy: a new clinical entity?

Three adult de novo acute myeloid leukemias (AML M1, M2, and M4) with an isochromosome 7p are presented. No additional abnormalities were detected by G-band and multicolor, using combined binary ratio labeling, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analyses, indicating that the i(7p) was the sole, i.e.

Frequent good partial remissions from thalidomide including best response ever in patients with advanced refractory and relapsed myeloma.

Twenty-three patients with advanced and heavily pretreated myeloma were treated with thalidomide. Starting dose was 200 mg/d, and 20 patients had dose escalations up to 400 (n = 5), 600 (n = 12) or 800 mg/d (n = 3), usually in divided doses. Nineteen patients were refractory to recent chemotherapy, and four had untreated relapse after prior intensive therapy.

Empiric monotherapy for febrile neutropenia--a randomized study comparing meropenem with ceftazidime.

In this Swedish multicentre study we compared the efficacy of meropenem with ceftazidime for treatment of febrile neutropenia. 192 patients were randomized and the number of evaluable patients was 92 in the meropenem group and 95 in the ceftazidime group. 40 (43%) patients in the meropenem arm and 49 (52%) in the ceftazidime arm had acute leukaemia.
