In this study, we developed active bio-composite films using a sodium alginate/starch (1:1) matrix incorporating date seed extract encapsulated mesoporous silica (DSE@MCM-41) up to 7.5 wt%. Incorporating DSE@MCM-41 significantly improved the films' properties, enhancing antioxidant efficacy and UV-blocking capabilities.

Article Synopsis
  • CuFeO nanoparticles were created and anchored onto sepiolite fibers and graphene oxide to form a CFSG nanocomposite using a simple one-step process.
  • The CFSG nanocomposite was tested for its ability to remove heavy metals (Pb(II) and Cd(II)) from solutions, showing significantly higher effectiveness for Pb(II) (238.1 mg/g) compared to Cd(II) (14.97 mg/g).
  • Adsorption experiments indicated that both metals followed the Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models, with Pb(II) adsorption being exothermic and Cd(II) endothermic, highlighting the role of electrostatic interactions in metal removal.

The discharge of amoxicillin (AMX) from pharmaceutical intermediates has adverse effects on aquatic ecosystems. The elimination of AMX requires advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) that utilize high-performance photocatalysts. Furthermore, the design of highly visible light photocatalysts for AOPs demands both cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
