Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide and the second most common cause of cancer-related death in both men and women. Although a number of treatments are available to combat this malignancy, the antimetabolite 5-fluorouracil has been the cornerstone of therapy since its synthesis in the 1950s. Unfortunately, the prolonged use of 5-fluorouracil can lead to chemoresistance, which has prompted research into combination regimens to improve efficacy and quality of life and reduce resistance.

Argentatins are secondary metabolites synthesized by guayule (Parthenium argentatum A. Gray) with numerous potential medical applications. In addition to inhibiting insect growth, they are endowed with several pharmacological properties including antimicrobial and antitumorigenic activity.

Approximately one-third of the waste biomass from the cultivation of guayule ( A. Gray) for natural rubber production is leaf tissue; however, whether it can be valorized is not known. Guayulins and argentatins are potential high-value products that can be recovered from guayule resin during rubber/latex processing.

Effect of Crocetin on Basal Lipolysis in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes.

Crocetin (CCT) is a natural saffron-derived apocarotenoid that possesses healthy properties such as anti-adipogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. Lipolysis is enhanced in obesity and correlates with a pro-inflammatory, pro-oxidant state. In this context, we aimed to investigate whether CCT affects lipolysis.
