Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Clinical Isolates of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Isolates from Europe, Asia, and Latin America (2018-2023).

Background: The occurrence of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infections, especially pneumonia, has increased consistently in the last years. We evaluated the antimicrobial susceptibility of a large collection of S. maltophilia collected in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

Steatohepatitis-induced vascular niche alterations promote melanoma metastasis.

Background: In malignant melanoma, liver metastases significantly reduce survival, even despite highly effective new therapies. Given the increase in metabolic liver diseases such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), this study investigated the impact of liver sinusoidal endothelial cell (LSEC)-specific alterations in MASLD/MASH on hepatic melanoma metastasis.

Methods: Mice were fed a choline-deficient L-amino acid-defined (CDAA) diet for ten weeks to induce MASH-associated liver fibrosis, or a CDAA diet or a high fat diet (HFD) for shorter periods of time to induce early steatosis-associated alterations.

Anidulafungin is a useful surrogate marker for predicting susceptibility to rezafungin among five species using CLSI methods and interpretive criteria.

This study addresses the use of other echinocandins as surrogate markers to predict the susceptibility of rezafungin against the six most common spp. The Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) reference broth microdilution method was performed to test 5,720 clinical isolates of six different species. Species-specific interpretative criteria by CLSI breakpoints or epidemiological cutoff values were applied.

Could Better-Quality Employment Improve Population Health? Findings From a Scoping Review of Multi-Dimensional Employment Quality Research and a Proposed Research Direction.

Background: Precarious employment, a specific part of the conceptual spectrum of employment quality (EQ), has been established as an important risk to individual and population health and well-being when compared to a standard employment circumstance. There remains a need, however, to explore whether and how EQ might be used as a tool to not only protect but also advance population health and well-being.

Methods: The purposes of this scoping review were to assess the analytic treatment of the multiple dimensions of EQ and the stances researchers take to characterize the state of knowledge of EQ that supports the idea that better EQ is a health-promoting factor.

Protocol for isolating and purifying murine liver sinusoidal endothelial cells for in vitro culture and functional assays.

Liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) line the liver sinusoids and play a crucial role in liver function. Isolating LSECs is beneficial for their functional evaluation in vitro. Here, we provide a protocol for obtaining purified LSECs from mice via gradient centrifugation and magnetic cell sorting (MACS), yielding cells suitable for culture and downstream analyses.
