European pollen reanalysis, 1980-2022, for alder, birch, and olive.

The dataset presents a 43 year-long reanalysis of pollen seasons for three major allergenic genera of trees in Europe: alder (Alnus), birch (Betula), and olive (Olea). Driven by the meteorological reanalysis ERA5, the atmospheric composition model SILAM predicted the flowering period and calculated the Europe-wide dispersion pattern of pollen for the years 1980-2022. The model applied an extended 4-dimensional variational data assimilation of in-situ observations of aerobiological networks in 34 European countries to reproduce the inter-annual variability and trends of pollen production and distribution.

Individual faecal and boot swab sampling to determine John's disease status in small cattle herds.

Individual faecal samples were collected from adult animals in 275 cattle farms previously positive for Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP). In addition, boot swab samples were collected in 30 randomly chosen farms.

Laparoscopic adnexal surgery during pregnancy.

Adnexal masses diagnosed in a gravid woman sometimes must be surgically evaluated and treated during the pregnancy. A laparoscopic approach may have several advantages over laparotomy, but only one case of laparoscopic adnexal surgery during pregnancy has been previously reported. Two pregnant patients with acute pelvic pain and adnexal masses were treated by operative laparoscopy.

Female circumcision: obstetric issues.

Female circumcision is a problem unfamiliar to most Western obstetrician-gynecologists. We present a case illustrative of the unique management problems posed by these patients during labor. A method of releasing the anterior vulvar scar tissue to allow vaginal delivery is described.

Expression of nitric oxide synthase by syncytiotrophoblast in human placental villi.

The endogenous biosynthesis of nitric oxide (NO) is increased during gestation. To begin our investigation of a possible tissue source (or sources), we examined the placenta. We postulated that analogous to the endothelium of blood vessels, the syncytiotrophoblast (STr) cell layer that lines the intervillous blood space of the human placenta would express NO synthase.
