Background: Glaucoma is an irreversible silent and dangerous eye condition that leads to damage of the optic nerve head. This study aimed to determine the outcome of targeted glaucoma outreaches done in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital over three years with a view to early detection and timely institution of management.
Methods: The study is a retrospective review of 3 targeted hospital-based glaucoma screenings, World Sight Day of 2019 (140 participants), World Glaucoma Week of 2020 (176 participants), and World Glaucoma Week of 2022 (183 participants).
Background And Aims: In a recent trial, patients with severe alcohol-associated hepatitis treated with anakinra plus zinc (A+Z) had lower survival and higher acute kidney injury (AKI) rates versus prednisone (PRED). We characterize the clinical factors and potential mechanisms associated with AKI development in that trial.
Approach And Results: Data from 147 participants in a multicenter randomized clinical trial (74 A+Z, 73 PRED) were analyzed.
Diagnostic challenges continue to impede development of effective therapies for successful management of alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH), creating an unmet need to identify noninvasive biomarkers for AH. In murine models, complement contributes to ethanol-induced liver injury. Therefore, we hypothesized that complement proteins could be rational diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers in AH.

Social norms that shape group behavior describe acceptable standards of behavior and evoke sanctions when such behavior standards are not adhered to.

Considering the sizeable share of (Sub-Sahara) Africa in the global population, the attainment of global energy sector net-zero emission is practically impossible without a commitment from African countries. Therefore, it is important to study and analyze feasible/sustainable ways to solve the energy/electricity poverty in Africa.
