Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connection between extra-intestinal manifestations (EIMs) and the outcomes of ulcerative colitis (UC), focusing on immunological comorbidities in Japan.
  • Conducted at Nagoya University Hospital over two years, the analysis reviewed medical records of 105 UC patients, revealing that 43.7% of EIMs occur in an active phase of UC.
  • Significant correlations were found between active symptoms of UC and several immunological conditions like peripheral arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, highlighting the need for better understanding and management of these comorbidities to prevent complications.

Understanding the behaviour of nanoscale systems is of great importance to tailor their properties. To this aim, we investigate the Young's modulus (YM) of defect-free and defective armchair bilayer silicene nanoribbons (SNRs), at room temperature, as a function of length and distance between layers. In this study, we perform molecular dynamics simulations using the environment-dependent interatomic potential to describe the interaction of the Si atoms.

This paper reports the effect of the operation and design characteristics of rotating drum bioreactors (RDBs) aerated by natural convection and applied to the treatment of a soil highly polluted with weathered total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) (55,000 +/- 2,600 mg/kg). The parameters studied were length to diameter ratio (L/D), rotating speed (N) and lifter type. The highest TPH removal (59.
