The risk of inducing hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) constitutes the main challenge associated with insulin therapy for diabetes. Insulin doses must be adjusted to ensure that blood glucose values are within the normal range, but matching insulin doses to fluctuating glucose levels is difficult because even a slightly higher insulin dose than needed can lead to a hypoglycaemic incidence, which can be anything from uncomfortable to life-threatening. It has therefore been a long-standing goal to engineer a glucose-sensitive insulin that can auto-adjust its bioactivity in a reversible manner according to ambient glucose levels to ultimately achieve better glycaemic control while lowering the risk of hypoglycaemia.

Introduction: Ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) is currently the gold standard for restoration of gastrointestinal continuity after colectomy for ulcerative colitis in the UK. However, with further experience of the risks relating to IPAA, the use of ileorectal anastomosis (IRA) is being revisited. Decisions regarding restorative surgery after colectomy are individual to every patient's circumstances, and this paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of the literature to guide a full discussion of the risks and benefits of IRA.

This paper presents the design, implementation, and validation of an on-blade sensor system for remote vibration measurement for low-capacity wind turbines. The autonomous sensor system was deployed on three wind turbines, with one of them operating in harsh weather conditions in the far south of Chile. The system recorded the acceleration response of the blades in the flapwise and edgewise directions, data that could be used for extracting the dynamic characteristics of the blades, information useful for damage diagnosis and prognosis.

Background: Deep infiltrating endometriosis (DE) is a particularly severe disease which affects 10-20% of women with endometriosis. 90% of DE is rectovaginal and when suspected, some clinicians have suggested the routine use of flexible sigmoidoscopy to identify intraluminal disease. We aimed to assess the value of sigmoidoscopy prior to surgery for rectovaginal DE, both in terms of diagnosis and planning management.
