Segmental heterogeneity in the biochemical properties of the Na+-K+-ATPase along the intestine of the gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.).

The activity of the Na+-K+-ATPase along the intestinal mucosa of the gilthead seabream has been examined. Under optimal assay conditions, found at 35 degrees C, pH 7.5, 2-5 mM MgCl2, 5 mM ATP, 10 mM K+ and 200 mM Na+, maximal Na+-K+-ATPase activities were found in the microsomal fraction of pyloric caeca (PC) and anterior intestine (AI), which were more than two-fold the activity measured in the microsomes from the posterior intestine (PI).
