Objective: Our goal was to demonstrate the usefulness of echocardiography and cardiac Doppler echocardiography (echo-Doppler) in the diagnosis of endomyocardial fibrosis, an unusual restrictive cardiomyopathy in Argentina.

Methods: Between 1980 and 1998, we studied 10 women (aged 27 to 58 years) with endomyocardial fibrosis confirmed by surgery and/or endomyocardial biopsy. Of the 10 cases of endomyocardial fibrothrombosis, 8 were biventricular and 2 were left ventricular.

Background And Objectives: Multiplane transesophageal echocardiography provides countless tomographic planes through an angle of 180 degrees, thus overcoming the restriction encountered even with biplane transesophageal echocardiography. However, the incremental diagnostic value and clinical usefulness of this technique over biplane transesophageal echocardiography has not been extensively studied.

Study Population And Methods: In order to evaluate its advantages over biplane imaging, 250 patients (129 male, 121 females) aged 14-86 years, underwent multiplane transesophageal echocardiography.

In this paper the characterization of a canine-coronavirus (CCV) strain isolated in Spain is reported. The CCV cellular-infection cycle on A-72 cells was studied using electron-microscopy techniques. The isolate was found to have similar electrophoretic profile and antigenic properties to an American reference strain.

The avian follicular dendritic cell changes that occur in the germinal center of the Harderian gland during the course of the immune response were studied by electron microscopy and the immunoperoxidase method was employed for the detection of S-100 protein. The chickens were injected twice with Salmonella O Antigen into the nictitating membrane at 9-day intervals. The follicular dendritic cells exhibited filiform processes at between 24 and 96 h after the second antigen administration.

A protein of 34 kDa (Nx) was induced in vitro by the infection of fish cell cultures with the rhabdovirus agent of viral haemorrhagic septicaemia (VHS) of the trout. This protein only appeared as a major component in concentrated or intracellular labeled VHS virus but not in purified VHS or in the related infectious haematopoietic necrosis virus. That Nx protein is antigenically related to the nucleoprotein of purified virus was shown by its reaction with four anti-nucleoprotein monoclonal antibodies (at least 3 of them reacting non competitively against different epitopes) and by immunoprecipitation with polyvalent international reference sera.
