A novel scale based on biomarkers associated with COVID-19 severity can predict the need for hospitalization and intensive care, as well as enhanced probabilities for mortality.

Prognostic scales may help to optimize the use of hospital resources, which may be of prime interest in the context of a fast spreading pandemics. Nonetheless, such tools are underdeveloped in the context of COVID-19. In the present article we asked whether accurate prognostic scales could be developed to optimize the use of hospital resources.

[Efficacy of the emergency unit's filter function in patients with psychiatric symptoms].

Unlabelled: The fundamental functions of the recently established emergency units/departments include the initial assessment, triage, commencement of treatment and referral for admission to the hospital.

Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze psychiatric cases assessed at the department of emergency with particular reference to misdiagnoses and the reasons why emergency physicians failed to reach correct diagnoses.

Method: This is a chart review of patients with psychiatric diagnoses evaluated at the Department of Emergency, Mohács City Hospital during 2006.

Subcellular distribution of the Entamoeba histolytica 140 kDa FN-binding molecule during host-parasite interaction.

Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites recovered from the host-parasite interface during abscess development obtain different stimuli compared with long-term cultured cells. In order to have a better understanding about the mechanisms in which the 140 kDa fibronectin (FN)-binding molecule (EhFNR) is involved during the invasive process, we decided to compare the regulation process of this molecule among long-term cultured trophozoites, FN-stimulated trophozoites, and trophozoites recently recovered from a liver abscess. A cDNA clone (5A) containing a fragment of the EhFNR that shows identity to the C-terminal region of the intermediate galactose lectin subunit Igl, was selected with a mAb (3C10).

Increased bar minigene mRNA stability during cell growth inhibition.

Bacteriophage lambda is unable to grow vegetatively on Escherichia coli mutants defective in peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase (Pth) activity. Mutations which allow phage growth on the defective host have been located at regions named bar in the lambda genome. Expression of wild-type bar regions from plasmid constructs results in inhibition of protein synthesis and lethality to Pth-defective cells.
