Despite the WHO recommendations in favor of breastfeeding, most infants receive infant formulas (IFs), which are complex matrices involving numerous ingredients and processing steps. Our aim was to understand the impact of the quality of the protein ingredient in IFs on gut microbiota and physiology, blood metabolites and brain gene expression. Three IFs were produced using whey proteins (WPs) from cheese whey (IF-A) or ideal whey (IFs-C and -D) and caseins, either in a micellar form (IFs-A and -C) or partly in a non-micellar form (IF-D).

Nudix hydrolase 15 (NUDT15) deficiency is strongly associated with thiopurine-induced myelosuppression. Currently, testing for NUDT15 deficiency is based on the genotyping of the most frequent and clinically characterized no-function variants, that is, *2, *3 and *9. Article Synopsis
  • - Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a serious condition caused by bleeding in the brain, leading to about 3.5 million cases worldwide and responsible for nearly 30% of new strokes, making it the deadliest type of stroke.
  • - The progression of ICH involves multiple stages, including vessel rupture, hematoma growth, and secondary damage to the brain, with the majority of cases linked to specific vascular diseases.
  • - While there's currently no definitive treatment, emerging strategies aim to manage bleeding, assist in safely removing blood clots, and minimize further brain injury, though effective prevention measures for survivors are still under development.

Meticulous sample preparation and strict adherence to preservation procedures are essential for electron microscopy investigations, which enable accurate capture of organisms' morphology, size, and potential interactions within the sample. Here, we present a protocol for preserving cells of the model diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum and its native bacterial community. We describe steps for diatom fixation and coverslip preparation and washing.
