Due to its structure and properties, diatomite from a deposit in Jawornik Ruski (Subcarpathian Voivodeship) can be used as a sorbent in rain gardens. The purpose of the current research is to analyze how enriching the substrate used in a rain garden with diatomite can affect the removal of biogenic pollutants. This study was carried out under laboratory conditions using retention columns, two experimental columns with different contents of diatomite, and a control column without the addition of diatomite.

Geopolymer materials are increasingly being considered as an alternative to environmentally damaging concrete based on Portland cement. The presented work analyzed waste from mines and waste incineration plants as potential precursors for producing geopolymer materials that could be used to make lightweight foamed geopolymers for insulation applications. The chemical and phase composition, radioactivity properties, and leachability of selected precursors were analyzed.

Building envelopes with natural fibers are the future of sustainable construction, combining ecology and energy efficiency. The geopolymer building envelope was reinforced with innovative composite bars and two types of natural insulation (coconut mats and flax/hemp non-woven fabrics) were used as the core material. A 10 mol sodium hydroxide solution with an aqueous sodium silicate solution was used for the alkaline activation of the geopolymers.
