Background: Infants exposed to HIV but uninfected have altered immune profiles which include heightened systemic inflammation. The mechanism(s) underlying this phenomenon is unknown. Here, we investigated differences in neonatal gut bacterial and viral microbiome and associations with inflammatory biomarkers in plasma.

The myotendinous junction (MTJ) is a weak link in the musculoskeletal system. Here, we isolated the tips of single myofibres from healthy human hamstring muscles for confocal microscopy (n=6) and RNAscope in situ hybridisation (n=6) to gain insight into the profiles of cells and myonuclei in this region, in a fibre type manner. A marked presence of mononuclear cells was observed coating the myofibre tips (confirmed by serial block face scanning electron microscopy and cryosection immunofluorescence), with higher numbers for type I (median 29; range 16-63) than type II (16; 9-23) myofibres (p<0.

Article Synopsis
  • The shortage of General Practitioners (GPs) in Europe, especially in rural Germany, is exacerbated by an aging workforce and a trend of new doctors opting out of primary care or working part-time.
  • Understanding the factors influencing medical students' specialty choices is vital, including their personality traits, which can impact their interest in General Practice.
  • The study conducted at the University of Würzburg surveyed medical students to analyze the relationships between personality traits from the Five-Factor Model and their intention to pursue careers in General Practice, using statistical methods like linear regression.

Unlabelled: Anellovirus infections are ubiquitous in mammals but lack any clear disease association, suggesting a commensal virus-host relationship. Although anelloviruses have been identified in numerous mammalian hosts, their presence in members of the family Delphinidae has yet to be reported. Here, using a metagenomic approach, we characterize complete anellovirus genomes ( = 69) from four Delphinidae host species: short-finned pilot whale (, = 19), killer whale (, = 9), false killer whale (, = 6), and pantropical spotted dolphin (, = 1).

Melt electrowriting (MEW) is a powerful additive manufacturing technique to produce tissue engineering scaffolds. Despite its strength, it is limited by a small number of processable polymers. Therefore, to broaden the library of materials for MEW, we investigated the printability of poly(ethylene oxide terephthalate)-poly(butylene terephthalate) (PEOT-PBT), a thermoplastic elastomer.
