Ammonia and beyond - biomarkers of hepatic encephalopathy.

Ammonia is a product of amino acid metabolism that accumulates in the blood of patients with liver cirrhosis, leading to neurotoxic effects and hepatic encephalopathy (HE). HE manifestations can range from mild, subclinical disturbances in cognition, or minimal HE (mHE) to gross disorientation and coma, a condition referred to as overt HE. Many blood-based biomarkers reflecting these neurotoxic effects of ammonia and liver disease can be measured in the blood allowing the development of new biomarkers to diagnose cirrhosis patients at risk of developing HE.

Introduction: Clinical practice guidelines in neurorehabilitation for adults with disorders of consciousness by the Spanish Neurorehabilitation Society. This document is based on a review of international clinical practice guidelines published between 2015 and 2022.

Method: A total of 7 articles, corresponding to 5 clinical practice guidelines published between 2015 and 2022, were selected by the group of authors from a pool of 48 bibliographic references extracted from various databases in accordance with predefined search criteria.

While hysteroscopy is often performed in office settings without sedation, patients frequently report significant pain during the procedure. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of paracervical anesthesia with mepivacaine compared to placebo in managing pain during office hysteroscopy.

Objective: Despite an abundance of public discourse about the opioid crisis in the media, there is little research characterizing opioid-related content on TikTok, a popular video-based social media platform. This study sought to examine how opioids are portrayed on TikTok.

Methods: This study used mixed-methods to analyze top opioid-related posts marked with the hashtag "#opioids" collected in May 2023.

Centrosomes organize microtubules that are essential for mitotic divisions in animal cells. They consist of centrioles surrounded by pericentriolar material (PCM). Questions related to mechanisms of centriole assembly, PCM organization, and spindle microtubule formation remain unanswered, partly due to limited availability of molecular-resolution structural data inside cells.
