Introduction: For preterm infants, the first two weeks after birth are a time when nutrition and protein intake is variable and often falls below recommended intakes. Our objective was to investigate the relationship between protein intake, including source of protein, during the first two weeks after birth and fat-free mass (FFM) accretion in a group of very preterm infants.

Methods: In this observational cohort study, body composition was assessed using air displacement plethysmography in eligible infants <32 weeks gestational age at two weeks after birth and prior to discharge.

Assessing growth quality in preterm infants present challenges, particularly with the use of the standard fat-free mass measurement. We report here a moderate correlation between indirect skeletal muscle mass measurements using the D3-creatine dilution method and fat-free mass measured with air-displacement plethysmography. Skeletal muscle mass could serve as an indicator of growth quality.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the relative importance of leadership communication in predicting burnout and intention to stay among faculty and staff while controlling for other factors such as satisfaction with compensation and work-home flexibility.

Methods: This study involved a secondary analysis of data derived from an organizational engagement survey that included 2336 faculty members (75% response rate) and 17,664 staff members (72% response rate).

Results: Effective leadership communication was a stronger predictor of burnout and intent to stay than satisfaction with compensation and work-home flexibility.

A common approach for understanding how drugs induce their therapeutic effects is to identify the genetic determinants of drug sensitivity. Because 'chemo-genetic profiles' are performed in a pooled format, inference of gene function is subject to several confounding influences related to variation in growth rates between clones. In this study, we developed Method for Evaluating Death Using a Simulation-assisted Approach (MEDUSA), which uses time-resolved measurements, along with model-driven constraints, to reveal the combination of growth and death rates that generated the observed drug response.
