Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is often diagnosed in young adults, and therefore frequently coincides with pregnancy. Patients may require surgery that includes (temporary) stoma placement. Literature on the occurrence of stoma-complications during pregnancy and the effect on pregnancy outcomes is limited.

Long-term treatment outcomes of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for fatigue in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: Results of a randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: Fatigue is prevalent in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in remission. Previously, we showed that fatigued IBD patients experienced a significant decrease in fatigue after receiving mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). The current study examined to what extent these short-term beneficial effects of MBCT on fatigue were maintained over nine months follow-up, and whether patient characteristics were associated with clinically relevant improvement in fatigue.

Limited predictive value of the gut microbiome and metabolome for response to biological therapy in inflammatory bowel disease.

Emerging evidence suggests the gut microbiome's potential in predicting response to biologic treatments in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In this prospective study, we aimed to predict treatment response to vedolizumab and ustekinumab, integrating clinical data, gut microbiome profiles based on metagenomic sequencing, and untargeted fecal metabolomics. We aimed to identify predictive biomarkers and attempted to replicate microbiome-based signals from previous studies.

Vaginal delivery in women with perianal Crohn's disease: why not?

Background: Pregnant women with active perianal Crohn's disease indicate a cesarean delivery according to the current European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation guidelines. This advice is based on the assumption that vaginal delivery leads to exacerbation of perianal disease and worsening of fecal continence. However, there is no strong evidence to support this.
