Feasibility of hand grip tests during and after hospitalization in geriatric patients: an observational study.

Background: Monitoring the recovery trajectory during and after hospitalization can be a valuable method to observe whether additional care is needed to optimize recovery. Hand grip strength tests are commonly used to measure an individual's physical condition. Eforto® is a system to monitor hand grip strength and grip work as measures of recovery.

Validity and reliability of Eforto®, a system to (self-)monitor grip strength and muscle fatigability in older persons.

Introduction: We developed Eforto®, an innovative system for (self-)monitoring of grip strength (GS) and muscle fatigability (Fatigue Resistance (FR = time until GS decreased to 50% of maximum during sustained contraction) and grip work (GW = area under the strength-time curve)). The Eforto® system consists of a rubber bulb that is wirelessly connected to a smartphone-based application, and a telemonitoring platform. The aim was to evaluate the validity and reliability of Eforto® to measure muscle fatigability.

Implementation of a pneumonia prevention protocol to decrease the incidence of postoperative pneumonia in patients after hip fracture surgery.

Objective: Postoperative pneumonia is among the most common complications in elderly patients after hip fracture surgery. We implemented a proactive postoperative pneumonia prevention protocol and analyzed the incidence of postoperative pneumonia in elderly patients (≥70 years of age) receiving this protocol after hip fracture surgery versus those receiving usual care before the protocol's implementation at our institution.

Materials And Methods: From November 2018 to October 2019, the proactive postoperative pneumonia prevention protocol was implemented.
