Fibula allograft in complex three-part and four-part proximal humeral fractures in active patients, a matched case-control study.

Background: About 20% of proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are unstable and/or markedly displaced and therefore require surgery. Locking plate fixation after anatomical reduction has become the current treatment of choice for these fractures in the active population. However, studies have shown complication rates up to 36%, such as loss of reduction and avascular necrosis.

New possibilities: the LockDown device for distal clavicle fractures.

Background And Hypothesis: The majority of distal clavicle fractures are displaced fractures and constitute a treatment challenge because they have a 30% chance of delayed union or nonunion. Although several options for surgical reconstruction have been described, in patients with a comminuted and/or small distal fragment, these reconstructive options have proved to be prone to failure. Moreover, secondary surgery for removal is necessary in most cases.

Dutch version of the Victorian Institute of Sports Assessment-Achilles questionnaire for Achilles tendinopathy: Reliability, validity and applicability to non-athletes.

Aim: To translate the Victorian Institute of Sports Assessment-Achilles (VISA-A) questionnaire into the Dutch language (VISA-A-NL), and to assess its reliability, validity, and applicability to non-athletes.

Methods: After translation according to a forward-backward protocol, 101 patients with complaints of Achilles tendinopathy were asked to fill out the VISA-A-NL at two time points together with visual analogue scale, the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score, and the Short Form-36 questionnaires. Reliability, internal consistency, construct validity, and content validity were tested.

The appearance of the pre-Achilles fat pad after endoscopic calcaneoplasty.

Purpose: To evaluate whether the imaging features of the retrocalcaneal recess normalize on a conventional radiograph after surgery for retrocalcaneal bursitis and evaluate whether it can be reused if complaints reoccur.

Methods: Patients who underwent an endoscopic calcaneoplasty at least 2 years before were eligible for inclusion. A lateral conventional radiograph of the surgically treated hindfoot was made to assess the retrocalcaneal recess and pre-Achilles fat pad; images were analysed, clinical complaints were registered and evaluated.

Treatment for insertional Achilles tendinopathy: a systematic review.

Purpose: Systematically search and analyse the results of surgical and non-surgical treatments for insertional Achilles tendinopathy.

Methods: A structured systematic review of the literature was performed to identify surgical and non-surgical therapeutic studies reporting on ten or more adults with insertional Achilles tendinopathy. MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE (Classic) and the Cochrane database of controlled trials (1945-March 2011) were searched.
