The isolated Aspergillus flavus NSRN22 was used for green synthesis of silver and selenium nanoparticles (AgNPs and SeNPs). New food packaging films produced by combining each type of NPs with chitosan (CS) or sodium alginate (SA) were characterized. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the average particle size was lower in case of AgNPs (9 to 14.

A Novel cold-active chitin deacetylase from Shewanella psychrophila WP2 (SpsCDA) was overexpressed in Escherichia coli BL21 and employed for deacetylation of chitin to chitosan. The produced chitosan was characterized, and its antifungal activity was investigated against Fusarium oxysporum. The purified recombinant SpsCDA appeared as a single band on SDS-PAGE at approximately 60 kDa, and its specific activity was 92 U/mg.

Article Synopsis
  • - The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among older Americans has risen by 10.5% from 2007 to 2017, despite treatment advancements for hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infections.
  • - Treatment for HBV significantly increased, leading to a decrease in HBV-attributable HCC, while HCV-attributable HCC continued to rise even after improvements in HCV treatment starting in 2014.
  • - The study utilized data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results-Medicare database to analyze the relationships between antiviral therapy and HCC incidence in those aged 66 and older.

Introduction: Withdrawal of nucleos(t)ide analog (NA) therapy is associated with hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) loss and sustained, off-therapy partial cure (normal ALT [≤30 U/L males, ≤20 U/L females) with HBV DNA <2000 IU/mL) but should be offered only to those most likely to benefit. HBVRNA may be useful for risk stratification.

Methods: The Hepatitis B Research Network Immune-Active Trial prospectively evaluated treatment with tenofovir (TDF) for 192 weeks ± peginterferon-α (PegIFN) for initial 24 weeks followed by protocolized withdrawal of TDF amongst eligible participants (NCT01369212).

Global environmental changes, such as climate change and reclamation alterations, significantly influence hydrological processes, leading to hydrologic nonstationarity and challenges in managing water availability and distribution. This study introduces a conceptual underpinning for the rational development and sustainability of groundwater resources. As one of the areas intended for the development projects within the Egyptian national plan for the reclamation of one and a half million acres; hundreds of pumping wells were constructed in the Moghra area to fulfill the reclamation demand.
