Capillary electrochromatography with packed bead beds in microfluidic devices.

Microchip-based bead-packed columns for electrochromatography are described for several types of stationary phases. Chromatography columns 2 mm in length were used for the separation of proteins and peptides by size- and ion-exchange modes of separation, respectively. In size-exclusion electrochromatograpgy, FITC-IgG and FITC-insulin were baseline resolved in less than 10 s, with efficiencies of up to 139,000 plates/m for FITC-insulin.

Fibromuscular dysplasia of the main renal arteries: comparison of contrast-enhanced MR angiography with digital subtraction angiography.

Purpose: To retrospectively evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of contrast material-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) angiography by using digital subtraction angiography as the reference standard in patients with hypertension and renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD).

Materials And Methods: Institutional review board approval was obtained, with waiver of informed consent. The results of renal contrast-enhanced MR angiography were retrospectively analyzed in 25 patients with hypertension (24 women, one man; mean age, 48 years +/- 19 [standard deviation]; age range, 18-72 years) who had FMD diagnosed on the basis of clinical and angiographic features.

Radiopacity of clomipramine conglomerations and unsuccessful endoscopy: report of 4 cases.

Background: The radiopacity of ingested substances may serve as a clue to the presence of particular compounds, as this characteristic varies considerably among medications and household products. Tablet conglomerations are also variably radiopaque. We report 4 cases of clomipramine poisoning associated with formation of radiopaque masses, believed to be clomipramine, in the area of the stomach.

Relation of body position at the time of discovery with suspected aspiration pneumonia in poisoned comatose patients.

Objective: The left lateral decubitus position is generally accepted as the position of choice to protect against aspiration pneumonia in comatose poisoned patients. We studied the relationship between initial body position during coma and subsequent development of suspected aspiration pneumonia (SAP).

Design: Observational, descriptive study.

A survey of sedation protocols used for emergency endotracheal intubation in poisoned patients in the French prehospital medical system.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate prehospital sedation protocols used by several French mobile intensive care units for difficult intubations in poisoned patients. This prospective, descriptive study was performed within the toxicological intensive care unit in a university hospital. Consecutive poisoned patients intubated during their airway management by prehospital medical teams were included.
