This study examines an unexplored aspect of SARS-CoV-2 entry into host cells, which is widely understood to occur via the viral spike (S) protein's interaction with human ACE2-associated proteins. While vaccines and inhibitors targeting this mechanism are in use, they may not offer complete protection against reinfection. Hence, we investigate putative receptors and their cofactors.

The phenol oxidase system is ancient and ubiquitously distributed in all living organisms. In various groups it serves for the biosynthesis of pigments and neurotransmitters (dopamine), defence reactions and tissue hardening. Ascidians belong to subphylum Tunicata, which is considered the closest living relative to Vertebrates.

Morphological, morphometric, and ultrastructural analysis of the nerve fibers in the colon mucosa was performed in C57BL/6 mice at various terms of development of acute colitis induced by dextran sodium sulphate. The nerve fibers were labeled with antibodies to pan-neuronal marker βIII-tubulin. The progression of inflammatory and ulcerative processes in the mucosa on days 3-5 was associated with hyperplasia and hypertrophy of nerve fibers that peaked on day 7 after colitis induction.

Article Synopsis
  • Philip Morris International (PMI) created the IQOS heat-not-burn tobacco product, which generates less harmful aerosol compared to traditional cigarettes but varies in reported toxicity reduction among studies.
  • The aim of the surveys conducted in Germany, Italy, and the UK from 2018 to 2020 is to assess the prevalence of tobacco and nicotine product use, including IQOS, and gather insights on health perceptions, usage motivations, and aesthetic preferences.
  • Surveys will include over 6,000 general population respondents and about 1,400 IQOS users per year, utilizing face-to-face interviews and online questionnaires for data collection.

Morphological manifestations of acute colitis and subpopulation composition of colon lymphocytes were studied in male and female C57Bl/6 mice with acute dextran-induced colitis. We evaluated the severity of colitis symptoms, morphological changes in the colon, and prevalence of epithelialized and non-epithelialized ulcers. The subpopulation composition of lymphocytes (CD3-CD19 B cells, CD3CD4 T helpers, CD3CD8 cytotoxic T cells, and CD4CD25FOXP3 regulatory T cells) was assessed by flow cytofluorometry in suspension of colon cells prepared by enzymatic disintegration.
