The lipid peroxidation product acrolein was semiquantitated by GC-MS (EI) in unheated and heated peanut oil, respectively, representing a model system for peanut roasting. Depending on the heating time, acrolein levels significantly increased from 0.2 to 10.

The deviated nose presents a particular challenge to the rhinoplasty surgeon because, frequently, both a functional problem (airway obstruction) and an aesthetic problem must be addressed. An approach to the deviated nose is presented that relies on accurate preoperative planning and precise intraoperative execution of corrective measures to return the nasal dorsum to midline, restore dorsal aesthetic lines, and maintain airway patency. The principles of correction include wide exposure through the open approach, release of all deforming forces to the septum, straightening of the septum while maintaining an adequate dorsal and caudal strut, restoring long-term support, reducing the hypertrophied turbinates, and performing controlled stable percutaneous osteotomies.

Background: Commonly used techniques for achieving nasal tip projection and refinement are adequate for most primary rhinoplasty patients, but they may result in undesirable tip bifidity and visible lower lateral cartilage angularity, especially in patients with thin skin.

Objective: We report the use of "like" local tissues, cephalic trim cartilage remnants of the lower lateral cartilages, as invisible tip grafts to soften any angular cartilage edges or tip bifidity.

Methods: The cartilaginous framework was exposed by using the open rhinoplasty approach.

Atherosclerosis of the lower extremity frequently leads to limb-threatening ischemic soft-tissue wounds. Over the past 44 months, 30 selected patients with arterial disease documented by angiography were treated with combined vascular reconstruction and free-tissue transfer for limb salvage. Soft-tissue defects occurred on the plantar and dorsal surfaces of the foot and distal tibia with significant bone, tendon, or joint exposure.
