Eight cases of locally acquired, mosquito-transmitted (i.e., autochthonous) Plasmodium vivax malaria, which has not been reported in the United States since 2003, were reported to CDC from state health departments in Florida and Texas during May 18-July 17, 2023.

Macrophages incubated with native rickettsiae, but not those incubated with hemolytically inactivated rickettsiae, secreted significantly more LTB4 than did sham-treated macrophages. Antirickettsial antiserum was opsonic and blocked hemolysis, and macrophages incubated with rickettsiae in the presence of antiserum did not secrete more LTB4 than those incubated with buffer alone.

Changes in the organization of membranous structures in the amphibian oocyte cortex were studied during the process of progesterone-induced meiotic resumption. Progesterone treatment of Xenopus laevis oocytes induced short term and longer term changes in the cortical membranes. In the short term, progesterone induced a burst of endocytosis mediated through coated pits and coated vesicles.

It is shown here that ODNs can induce a variety of aberrations in cell metabolism and structure when injected into Xenopus oocytes. Examination of histological sections of ODN-injected oocytes revealed the frequent abnormal accumulation of heavily staining basophilic material in the area of the germinal vesicle (gv).

In early 1980, an apparent increase in patient complications with one lens style spurred a new study of 39 lenses from nine manufacturers. Most of these lenses appeared to have improved surface finishes when compared to the 1977 lenses.
