Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how yeast cell wall prebiotics and probiotics affect gut health, immune response, and growth in weaned piglets as alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters.
  • Results showed that the feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly better in piglets on the yeast treatments compared to those receiving antibiotics, with the best performers being those on the yeast cell wall diet alone.
  • The introduction of probiotics appeared to enhance levels of certain immune markers, while also altering gut microbiota composition, particularly increasing the presence of beneficial Lactobacillus species in the probiotic groups.
