Since 2010, Guiana dolphin morbillivirus (GDMV; family Paramyxoviridae, genus Morbillivirus, species Morbillivirus ceti, syn. Cetacean morbillivirus) is recognized as the cause of death of multiple cetacean species along the Brazilian coast, including an unusual mortality event in Rio de Janeiro state. Coronaviruses of the genus Gammacoronavirus (family Coronaviridae) have been previously detected in cetaceans in the northern hemisphere.

Dynamic macromolecular material design: the versatility of cucurbituril over cyclodextrin in host-guest chemistry.

The keto-enol tautomerism of avobenzone (AVO) is pivotal to its photostability, influenced by microenvironmental factors, such as, the type of solvent and complexation with macrocyclic compounds. This study explores the effect of host-guest complexation on AVO photostabilization, employing cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) to form inclusion complexes. CB[7] exhibits a higher affinity to the keto form of AVO, a UVC radiation absorber.

Perspective Article: Space-time dynamics of genome replication studied with super-resolved microscopy.

Genome replication requires duplication of the complete set of DNA sequences together with nucleosomes and epigenetic signatures. Notwithstanding profound knowledge on mechanistic details of DNA replication, major problems of genome replication have remained unresolved. In this perspective article, we consider the accessibility of replication machines to all DNA sequences in due course, the maintenance of functionally important positional and structural features of chromatid domains during replication, and the rapid transition of CTs into prophase chromosomes with two chromatids.

Gynecologic infection rates after ablation treatment for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 and higher (CIN2+): Secondary analysis of a non-inferiority randomized trial.

Although concerns have been raised regarding potential infection and morbidity in women undergoing ablation treatment for cervical precancer in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), there is extremely limited data to substantiate this claim. This is a secondary analysis of a randomized non-inferiority trial (id: NCT03084081) that compares the efficacy and safety of three ablation treatments for biopsy-confirmed cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or higher (CIN2+): CO2 gas-based cryotherapy, non-gas cryotherapy, and thermal ablation (TA). Here, we present findings regarding the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) and vaginitis post-treatment.

Interventional study to improve pertussis and influenza vaccination uptake in pregnant women.

Objectives: Pertussis and influenza are endemic infections and associated with relevant morbidity and mortality in newborns and young infants. The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health has recommended influenza vaccination since 2011 and pertussis vaccination in pregnancy (ViP) since 2013 and expanded to repetition in each pregnancy since 2017. ViP is safe and effective in preventing severe diseases, but implementation is a challenge.
