Ergothioneine (ET), a dietary thione/thiol, is receiving growing attention for its possible benefits in healthy aging and metabolic resilience. Our study investigates ET's effects on healthspan in aged animals, revealing lifespan extension and enhanced mobility in Caenorhabditis elegans, accompanied by improved stress resistance and reduced age-associated biomarkers. In aged rats, ET administration enhances exercise endurance, muscle mass, and vascularization, concomitant with higher NAD levels in muscle.

The value and welfare of performance horses is closely tied to locomotor behaviors, but we lack objective and quantitative measures for these characteristics, and qualitative approaches for assessing gait do not provide measures suitable for large-scale biomechanical research studies. Digital video analysis utilizing artificial intelligence-based strategies holds promise to meet the need for an economical, accurate, repeatable and objective technique for field quantification of equine locomotion. Here we describe pilot work using a consumer-level digital video camera to capture high-resolution and high-speed videos of horses moving at the trot during mandatory inspections for international-level eventing competitions.

Introduction: Paternal nutrition before conception has a marked impact on offspring's risk of developing metabolic disorders during adulthood. Research on human cohorts and animal models has shown that paternal obesity alters sperm epigenetics (DNA methylation, protamine-to-histone replacement, and non-coding RNA content), leading to adverse health outcomes in the offspring. So far, the mechanistic events that translate paternal nutrition into sperm epigenetic changes remain unclear.
