Despite a good reputation abroad, specialized medical training programs in France fail to attract a sufficient number of high-level foreign students. This report examines ways of improving the situation. If French universities are to increase their international renown, they must always be referred to by the same name in scientific papers.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Recent studies have indicated new physiological roles for erythropoietin (Epo) unrelated to erythropoiesis. We previously demonstrated that the Epo concentrations in peritoneal fluid from patients with stage I endometriosis were significantly higher than those with stages II, III and IV of the disease. Therefore, we hypothesized that Epo may play a role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis, particularly during the early stages of the disease.

An anonymous survey conducted among gynaecologists in the UK showed that 50% of ovarian endometrioma are still managed by laparotomy. This surprising result is discussed emphasizing the difficulties of the learning curve, pitfalls in surgical training and mistakes of the pioneers.

Purpose Of Review: To review recent literature on the laparoscopic management of adnexal masses, when this approach may be considered as a gold standard.
Recent Findings: Cyst rupture was recently demonstrated to be a significant prognostic factor in stage I invasive epithelial carcinoma, and it was recommended to restrict the laparoscopic approach to patients with preoperative evidence that the cyst was benign. The laparoscopic approach is still highly controversial in masses suspicious at ultrasound.
