Permafrost ground temperature and its spatial distribution are usually calculated using one-dimensional models based on heat flow in the vertical direction. Here, we theoretically calculated the impacts of lateral conductive heat flow on ground temperature under equilibrium and transient conditions. The results show that lateral heat flow has strong impacts on ground temperature, especially in deep ground.

The decomposition of dimethyl methyl phosphonate (DMMP), a simulant for the nerve agent sarin, was investigated on Cu/TiO(110) and K/Cu/TiO(110) surfaces using a combination of near-ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) and density functional theory calculations (DFT). Mass-selected Cu clusters and potassium (K) atoms were deposited onto TiO(110) as a metal catalyst and alkali promoter to improve the reactivity and recyclability of the TiO surface after exposure to DMMP. Surface reaction products resulting from decomposition of DMMP were probed by NAP-XPS measurements of phosphorus (P) 2p and carbon 1s core-level spectra.

This article shows the production of tellurium dioxide nanoparticles (TeO NPs) by pulsed laser ablation in liquids. The produced nanoparticles were spherical with a diameter of around 70 nm.

Unlabelled: Various subunits of mammalian SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes display loss-of-function mutations characteristic of tumor suppressors in different cancers, but an additional role for SWI/SNF supporting cell survival in distinct cancer contexts is emerging. In particular, genetic dependence on the catalytic subunit BRG1/SMARCA4 has been observed in acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), yet the feasibility of direct therapeutic targeting of SWI/SNF catalytic activity in leukemia remains unknown. Here, we evaluated the activity of dual BRG1/BRM ATPase inhibitors across a genetically diverse panel of cancer cell lines and observed that hematopoietic cancer cell lines were among the most sensitive compared with other lineages.

Cell size varies greatly between cell types, yet within a specific cell type and growth condition, cell size is narrowly distributed. Why maintenance of a cell-type specific cell size is important remains poorly understood. Here we show that growing budding yeast and primary mammalian cells beyond a certain size impairs gene induction, cell-cycle progression, and cell signaling.
