Is detrusor underactivity associated with voiding dysfunction after single incision sling surgery?

Background: Some women experience voiding dysfunction after stress urinary incontinence (SUI) surgery. We explore if detrusor underactivity (DU) found in urodynamic study (UDS) prior to SUI surgery using an adjustable single incision sling (SIS) may be related to voiding dysfunction after surgery.

Methods: This is a prospective, diagnostic, transversal, single center study comparing voiding dysfunction after SUI surgery with a SIS (Altis; Coloplast, Humlebæk, Denmark) between women with DU (cases) or normal detrusor (controls).

The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)-associated protein 9 (Cas9) system represents a powerful gene-editing tool and could enable treatment of blinding diseases of the retina. As a peptide of bacterial origin, we investigated the immunogenic potential of Cas9 in models of retinal immunocompetent cells: human microglia (IMhu) and ARPE-19 cells. Transfection with Streptococcus pyogenes-Cas9 expression plasmids (SpCas9 plasmid) induced Cas9 protein expression in both cell lines.

Challenges to Gene Editing Approaches in the Retina.

Retinal gene therapy has recently been at the cutting edge of clinical development in the diverse field of genetic therapies. The retina is an attractive target for genetic therapies such as gene editing due to the distinctive anatomical and immunological features of the eye, known as immune privilege, so that inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) have been studied in several clinical studies. Thus, rapid strides are being made toward developing targeted treatments for IRDs.

Recommendations on the use of intravesical hyaluronic acid instillations in bladder pain syndrome.

Introduction: Bladder pain syndrome (BPS) is a complex syndrome, without a clearly defined etiology that encompasses different entities, such as interstitial cystitis. This leads to difficulties in establishing a precise definition, obtaining accurate prevalence data, and defining diagnostic criteria and standardized assessment methods. Moreover, there is no consensus regarding the treatment of BPS.

[Cystoscopy in the assessment of patients with bladder pain syndrome: Results of a national multicenter observational study.].

Objectives: To study the use and results of cystoscopy and bladder hydrodistension in the objective assessment of patients with Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS), in routine clinical practice.

Material And Methods: Observational, non-interventional, national, multicenter study carried out in Functional Urology and Urodynamic Units of Spain belonging to the IFU Group. 273 women with BPS who underwent cystoscopy at baseline as a diagnostic tool according to clinical criteria and following the routine clinical practice of each center, were studied.
