Data are presented on chemical study of flavonoid glycosides in some botanical subjects using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization, compared to HPLC. The method of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) allows characterizing the composition of anthocyanin and flavonoid mixture without preliminary separation of components with minimal sample preparation, which greatly simplifies identification of bioactive phytogenic compounds.

Clinical efficacy of cycloferon (solution for injections) in combination with azitromycin was studied in males with newly diagnosed chronic prostatitis of chlamydial etiology and silent urogenital chlamydial infection. Administration of cycloferon in recommended regimen promotes clinical recovery and prevents recurrences. High clinical efficacy of cycloferon results from immunotropic activity of the drug which normalizes immune response and leads to elimination of the pathogen 3-6 months after the end of the treatment.

The functional properties of neutrophils (the activity of myeloperoxidase and the production of hydroxyl radical) were studied in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) predominantly with the alveolar and interstitial types of lung parenchymal infiltration. Protein oxidative modification was estimated from the content of protein carbonyl derivatives in neutrophilic leukocytes and plasma and from the plasma concentration of bityrosine and oxidized tryptophan in patients with CAP. The production of hydroxyl radical and the activity of myeloperoxidase in the neutrophils of patients with CAP were increased and did not depend on the type of lung tissue infiltration.

Herpesvirus infection is accompanied by imbalance of peripheral mononuclear production of cytokines, by polarizing an immune response by the Th2 pathway. The homozygous TT genotype of T330G polymorphism in the IL-2 gene is an immunogenetic factor that has a protective activity against susceptibility to herpesvirus infection. The risk of progression, the recurrent course of the infection and its poor outcome is positively associated with the heterozygous TG genotype in the IL-2 gene T-330G promoter region and with the homozygous CC type and C allele in the IL-4 gene C-590T promoter region.
