Primary anal cancers are rare and typically driven by high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Though squamous cell carcinoma is most common, a spectrum of HPV-related nonsquamous anogenital neoplasms with similarities to cervical stratified mucin-producing carcinoma has been reported. In this study, we mined our institutional archives to characterize the clinicopathologic features of this emerging entity.

Since the GI tract responds to injury in limited ways, identifying these processes may be challenging, especially on small endoscopic biopsies. This article reviews the clinicopathologic features of commonly encountered systemic diseases affecting the tubular GI tract: sarcoidosis, graft vs.

ES of the gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatobiliary tract is rare and may be misdiagnosed as other, more common neoplasms that occur in these sites. However, the correct classification of extraskeletal ES is important for timely clinical management and prognostication.

We report the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features of 18 cases of confirmed primary synovial sarcoma of the gastrointestinal tract. The neoplasms arose in 10 women and 8 men ranging in age from 23 to 81 years (mean: 50; median: 57.5 years).

Methods: Seventeen specimens from 7 patients were labeled by immunohistochemistry for programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1), CD45, CD8, CD4, FOXP3, CD20, CD68, and LAG3.
Since the publication of the 2020 World Health Organization classification of soft tissue and bone tumors, the classification of "fibroblastic" tumors has expanded to include a novel subset of tumors characterized by PRRX1::NCOA1/2 gene fusions. These tumors defy conventional classification and are morphologically distinct, characterized by a multi-nodular growth of bland spindle cells suspended in a myxo-collagenous stroma with mild cytologic atypia, "staghorn-like" vessels, and variable perivascular hyalinization. Mitotic activity is rare, and necrosis is not identified.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipoblastoma-like tumor (LLT) is a benign soft tissue tumor demonstrating mixed morphologic features of lipoblastoma, myxoid liposarcoma, and spindle cell lipoma but lacking genetic alterations associated with those tumors. LLT was originally thought to be specific to the vulva but has since been reported in the paratesticular region. The morphologic features of LLT overlap with those of "fibrosarcoma-like lipomatous neoplasm" (FLLN), a rare, indolent adipocytic neoplasm considered by some to form part of the spectrum of atypical spindle cell and pleomorphic lipomatous tumor.

These samples may show histologic features related to therapy including inflammation, ulceration, and epithelial atypia. In some cases, epithelial atypia may be marked, prompting the use of adjunct p53 immunohistochemistry.

Methods: A search of our Pathology Data System (2003-2022) and multiple other institutions identified eight patients with syphilitic gastritis.
Chemoradiation-associated injury may cause marked epithelial and stromal changes in gastric specimens. We characterized these histologic features in a retrospective series of cases. Nineteen cases of radiochemotherapy-associated gastropathy were identified, including 16 from our institution and 3 from consultation material.

Innovative teaching tools are needed to effectively and efficiently bridge this gap. We created four online learning modules geared toward pathology interns, for use at the beginning of the gastrointestinal pathology rotation at our institution.

Most of the pathology literature on hepatic syphilis consists of older series or case reports. This study aimed to systematically characterize the histologic spectrum of hepatic syphilis in a contemporary cohort.

Given their relative rarity, familiarity with the morphological spectrum associated with HPV-driven anal neoplasia is important for proper identification and diagnosis. In this article, we review the classification and basic histopathological features of HPV-related squamous intraepithelial and invasive lesions as well as associated pitfalls.

The 2 index cases were identified within our consultation files as morphologically distinctive primary hepatic neoplasms in a 24-year-old female and a 54-year-old male. The neoplasms each demonstrated varied architecture, including trabecular, organoid, microcystic/follicular, and infiltrative glandular patterns, and biphasic cytology with large, polygonal eosinophilic cells and smaller basophilic cells.

This study aimed to assess interobserver agreement in IBD dysplasia diagnoses among subspecialty GI pathologists and to explore the impact of mentorship on diagnostic variability. These processes include esophageal epidermoid metaplasia, Barrett esophagus-associated dysplasia, polypoid gastric dysplastic lesions, small intestinal dysplasia, and the ability of metastases to mimic it, the controversial "serrated epithelial change" encountered in the setting of long-standing ulcerative and Crohn colitis, and recently described anal columnar human papilloma virus-associated neoplasms.

While immunohistochemical stains are available for syphilis, there is no commonly available stain for the tissue identification of CT.
