Background And Objectives: Despite the significant impact of heart failure on both members of the care dyad, few interventions focus on optimizing the health of the dyad. The current study examined the feasibility and acceptability of the novel Taking Care of Us (TCU) program with mid-late-life couples living with heart failure and explored preliminary efficacy.

Research Design And Methods: This NIH Stage I study used a 2-arm randomized controlled trial with pretest-post-test design and an additional 5-month follow-up to compare TCU with an educational counseling attention-control condition.

Digital Dentists: A Curriculum for the 21st Century.

Future health professionals, including dentists, must critically engage with digital health technologies to enhance patient care. While digital health is increasingly being integrated into the curricula of health professions, its interpretation varies widely depending on the discipline, health care setting, and local factors. This viewpoint proposes a structured set of domains to guide the designing of a digital health curriculum tailored to the unique needs of dentistry in Australia.

An Evaluation of Primary Care Clinician Referrals for Behavioral Weight Loss Counseling.

Introduction/objectives: In the context of enrolling patients from primary care practices into a weight loss research study, this study describes the percentage of patients primary care clinicians (PCCs) considered appropriate for referral and study participation rates among those referred.

Methods: An electronic health record review identified 5322 patients aged 18 to 75 years with BMI ≥ 30 kg/m as eligible for review by community, attending, and resident PCCs for referral to a weight loss study. Referrals and patient interest in participating in the study are reported overall and by PCC type.

Effect of sodium hypochlorite and EDTA pretreatment on the resin infiltration efficacy and acid resistance of enamel white spot lesions: an in vitro study.

Background: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as pretreatments on the resin infiltration efficacy and acid resistance of enamel white spot lesions (WSLs).

Methods: Enamel blocks prepared from the buccal surfaces of sound human premolars were placed in a demineralisation solution for 3 days to establish artificial enamel WSLs. All the blocks with WSLs were randomly divided into four groups (n = 40 per group): RI (Control): resin infiltration only.

Background: Neuroinflammation contributes to degeneration of neurons in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). The concentrations of inflammatory cytokines, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, are often increased in people with PD and are associated with various non-motor symptoms. Qigong exercise is a mind-body practice which has been used as a rehabilitation intervention for people with PD.

Physicochemical and isotopic similarity between well water and intruding surface water is not synonymous with similarity in prokaryotic diversity and community composition.

Intruding surface water can impact the physicochemical and microbiological quality of groundwater. Understanding these impacts is important because groundwater provides much of the world's potable water, and reduced quality is a potential public health risk. In this study, we monitored six shallow groundwater wells and three surface water bodies in the North Ostrobothnia region of Finland twice monthly for 12 months (October 2021-October 2022) via (i) on-site and off-site measurements of physicochemical water quality parameters, (ii) determination of stable water isotope compositions, and (iii) analysis of microbial communities (via amplicon sequencing of the V3-V4 16S rRNA gene sub-regions).

In Vivo and In Vitro Response to a Regenerative Dental Scaffold.

As dental pulp contains the stem cells necessary for regeneration, the tooth should hold the intrinsic capacity for self-repair. A triphasic hybrid dental biocomposite (3HB) composed of biocompatible biopolymers to provide strength, antibacterial properties and protein-based cell support could provide a conducive microenvironment for the regeneration of dental structures. 3HB was incorporated into Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (ProRoot MTA) to construct a malleable injectable implant.

Myofascial stretching is often prescribed in the management of musculoskeletal pain. However, the neural mechanisms contributing to a decrease in pain are unknown. Stretching produces a sensation that may act as a conditioning stimulus in a conditioned pain modulation response.

Noninvasive, epigenetic age estimation in an elasmobranch, the cownose ray (Rhinoptera bonasus).

Age data are essential for estimating life history parameters and are thus critical for population assessment, management, and conservation. Traditional vertebrae-based age estimation in elasmobranchs can be costly, time intensive, of low accuracy, and is by necessity lethal. Herein, epigenetic clocks were developed for an elasmobranch, the cownose ray (Rhinoptera bonasus), using aquarium-born individuals (n = 42) with known dates of birth (age range: 7-7,878 days or 0-21 years) and two tissue types (fin clips and whole blood) that can be sampled in a relatively non-invasive manner.

Transforming the Future of Digital Health Education: Redesign of a Graduate Program Using Competency Mapping.

Digital transformation has disrupted many industries but is yet to revolutionize health care. Educational programs must be aligned with the reality that goes beyond developing individuals in their own professions, professionals wishing to make an impact in digital health will need a multidisciplinary understanding of how business models, organizational processes, stakeholder relationships, and workforce dynamics across the health care ecosystem may be disrupted by digital health technology. Harvesting heterogeneity: Selective expertise versus machine learning.

The heterogeneity of outcomes in behavioral research has long been perceived as a challenge for the validity of various theoretical models. More recently, however, researchers have started perceiving heterogeneity as something that needs to be not only acknowledged but also actively addressed, particularly in applied research. This manuscript describes the conception and development of a novel, innovative digital health and informatics learning module designed specifically for entry-to-practice physiotherapy university programs. The design process involved consultation with stakeholders, alignment with contemporary digital health competency guidelines for health professional education, and educational design workshopping with faculty to ensure relevance and success. Key curriculum components include modules on health system transformation, design-thinking approaches, solution refinement and innovation pitching in the context of digital health.

Exploring preparedness transitions in medicine and pharmacy: a qualitative longitudinal study to inform multiprofessional learning opportunities.

Despite extensive preparedness literature, existing studies fail to adequately explore healthcare graduates' feelings of preparedness longitudinally across new graduate transition journeys, nor do they compare different healthcare professions to ascertain what opportunities exist for multiprofessional transition interventions. Therefore, this Australian study, underpinned by temporal theory, explores the preparedness transitions of medicine and pharmacy graduates. Our 6-month qualitative longitudinal study involved 12 medicine and 7 pharmacy learners after purposive sampling.

Dyadic Appraisals of Family Decisions and Health Tasks in Midlife-Older Couples.

Shared appraisals and collaboration within couples play important roles in optimizing health. Less is known about concordance regarding collaboration, factors associated with concordance, and implications for health. Data from 2,761 couples from the (2014/2016 and 2016/2018 waves) were examined to determine within-couple concordance in completion of two tasks (family decisions and medical forms).

Apomorphine titration with and without anti-emetic pretreatment in patients with Parkinson's disease experiencing OFF episodes: A modified Delphi panel.

Introduction: In the United States (US), prophylactic treatment with the antiemetic trimethobenzamide has been used before initiating apomorphine therapy. However, US trimethobenzamide stores have been depleted, leaving uncertainty regarding whether antiemetic pretreatment is needed.

Methods: This modified Delphi panel aimed to inform circumstances when apomorphine is initiated without antiemetic pretreatment.

Community-Led Action Research in Oncology: Pandemic-Appropriate Radiotherapy Innovations Evaluated (CLARO PARTE) for Latin America and the Caribbean Countries.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify, evaluate, and rank suitable safety innovations developed during the COVID-19 pandemic in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) radiation oncology centers.

Methods: We conducted a multimodal participatory engagement collaboration with the Latin-American and Caribbean Society of Medical Oncology. The study consisted of four phases.

Monitoring egg fertility, embryonic morbidity, and mortality in an oviparous elasmobranch using ultrasonography.

Ultrasonography is widely used to monitor pregnancy in viviparous species, but it is underutilized as a tool to characterize embryonic development in oviparous species. Currently, a multi-institutional effort is underway to re-wild the endangered zebra shark () to locations where this species was previously extirpated by leveraging the reproductive efforts of aquarium sharks as a source of brood stock. Zebra sharks are oviparous and fecund, but a large percentage of their yolked eggs do not result in hatchlings.

Parkinson's disease variant detection and disclosure: PD GENEration, a North American study.

Variants in seven genes (LRRK2, GBA1, PRKN, SNCA, PINK1, PARK7 and VPS35) have been formally adjudicated as causal contributors to Parkinson's disease; however, individuals with Parkinson's disease are often unaware of their genetic status since clinical testing is infrequently offered. As a result, genetic information is not incorporated into clinical care, and variant-targeted precision medicine trials struggle to enrol people with Parkinson's disease. Understanding the yield of genetic testing using an established gene panel in a large, geographically diverse North American population would help patients, clinicians, clinical researchers, laboratories and insurers better understand the importance of genetics in approaching Parkinson's disease.

A subset of image-defined risk factors predict completeness of resection in children with high-risk neuroblastoma: An international multicenter study.

Background: Image-defined risk factors (IDRFs) were promulgated for predicting the feasibility and safety of complete primary tumor resection in children with neuroblastoma (NB). There is limited understanding of the impact of individual IDRFs on resectability of the primary tumor or patient outcomes. A multicenter database of patients with high-risk NB was interrogated to answer this question.

Implementing evidence-based practices in rural settings: a scoping review of theories, models, and frameworks.

Background: Rural healthcare has unique characteristics that affect the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions. Numerous theories, models, and frameworks have been developed to guide implementation of healthcare interventions, though not specific to rural healthcare. The present scoping review sought to identify the theories, models, and frameworks most frequently applied to rural health and propose an approach to rural health research that harnesses selected constructs from these theories, models, and frameworks.

Barriers and facilitators to caring for individuals with serious persistent mental illness in long-term care.

Objective: Many older adults in the United States with serious persistent mental illness reside in long-term facilities, and evidence suggests increasing numbers of long-term care residents with serious persistent mental illness. Healthcare professionals in these settings may face challenges in providing care to these residents. The purpose of this study was to describe health care professionals' perceptions of the barriers and facilitators to caring for long-term care residents with serious persistent mental illness.

Incongruence in Perceptions of Pain: Associations with Mental Health in Couples Living with Fibromyalgia.

Guided by the theory of dyadic illness management, this study examined the association between the within-couple incongruence regarding perceptions of pain experienced by adults with fibromyalgia (AwFM) and symptoms of depression and anxiety in AwFM and their partners. Participants included 204 couples. Three second-order dyadic variables were created from the couples' perceptions of pain interference experienced by AwFM: (1) absolute magnitude of incongruence in perception of pain, (2) average perception of pain, and (3) direction of incongruence (i.
