Introduction: Women at midlife have increased rates of harmful drinking in many high-income countries. This cohort grew up within permissive alcohol environments that encouraged women's consumption, linking it to success, femininity, and empowerment. This research drew on notions of 'structures of feeling' and 'affective atmospheres' to explore how women at midlife describe and make sense of alcohol and drinking within their lives.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: The study aims are to: (i) explore methods for identifying alcohol company marketing in metaverses; (ii) identify current types of alcohol marketing in metaverses; and (iii) identify dominant portrayals and meanings of alcohol marketing in these settings.
Methods: Our design was exploratory, employing various approaches to identify alcohol company marketing across multiple metaverses. In stage one, we systematically navigated through metaverses as an avatar, documenting and coding all instances of alcohol company marketing.
Background: Artificial intelligence-machine learning (AI-ML) has demonstrated the ability to extract clinically useful information from electrocardiograms (ECGs) not available using traditional interpretation methods. There exists an extensive body of AI-ML research in fields outside of cardiology including several open-source AI-ML architectures that can be translated to new problems in an "off-the-shelf" manner.
Objective: We sought to address the limited investigation of which if any of these off-the-shelf architectures could be useful in ECG analysis as well as how and when these AI-ML approaches fail.
The Lemon shark Negaprion brevirostris is an important species experiencing conservation issues that is in need of genomic resources. Herein, we conducted a genome survey sequencing in N. brevirostris and determined genome size, explored repetitive elements, assembled and annotated the 45S rRNA DNA operon and mitochondrial genome.

Daily to monthly variations in near-bottom hydrodynamics and benthic biological activity may affect seafloor properties which then influence the acoustic response of the seafloor. There are limited data on the relative benefit of real-time monitoring compared with traditional Holter monitoring.
Methods And Results: This is a retrospective observational analysis of University of Utah Health patients who underwent ambulatory ECG studies from 2010 to 2022.
Superhydrophobic antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (SH-aPDT) is advantageous wherein airborne singlet oxygen (O) is delivered from a device tip to kill a biofilm with no photosensitizer exposure and no bacterial selectivity (Gram + or Gram -). For effective treatment of periodontitis, the frequency of treatment as well as the optical light fluence required is not known. Thus, we sought to determine whether single or repeated SH-aPDT treatments would work best in vivo using two fluence values: 60 and 125 J/cm.

Genicular artery embolization (GAE) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are emerging adjunctive or alternative minimally invasive treatments. The transmissible devil facial tumours 1 and 2 (DFT1 and DFT2) modulate MHC-I antigen presentation to evade host immune responses and facilitate transmission of tumours cells to new Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) hosts. To enhance T-cell-driven tumour immunogenicity for vaccination and immunotherapy, DFT1 and DFT2 cells were co-transfected with (i) NLRC5 for MHC-I expression or CIITA for MHC-I and MHC-II expression, and (ii) a co-stimulatory molecule, either CD80, CD86 or 41BBL.

Background: Most clinical trials define successful atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment as no AF episodes longer than 30 seconds. Yet, there has been minimal study of how patients define successful treatment and whether their perspectives align with trial outcomes.
Objectives: Survey patients with AF to identify: 1) what aspect of AF is most important to address (frequency, duration, or severity of AF episodes); 2) what AF burden would be considered acceptable to consider treatment successful; and 3) to establish patient preferences for successful treatment thresholds for a validated patient-reported outcome (PRO) score.
The rise of antimicrobial resistance poses a critical public health threat worldwide. While antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has demonstrated efficacy against multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, its effectiveness can be limited by several factors, including the delivery of the photosensitizer (PS) to the site of interest and the development of bacterial resistance to PS uptake. There is a need for alternative methods, one of which is superhydrophobic antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (SH-aPDT), which we report here.

While single-cell omics are more widely applied in model organisms and humans, their use in livestock species is just beginning. Studies in cattle, sheep, and goats have already leveraged single-cell and single-nuclei RNA-seq as well as single-cell and single-nuclei ATAC-seq to delineate cellular diversity in tissues, track changes in cell populations and gene expression over developmental stages, and characterize immune cell populations important for disease resistance and resilience.
