Background There is a need to develop evidence-based strategies to maximise student engagement in online learning contexts. Audience response systems (ARS) are well-established active learning tools that improve engagement in the face-to-face classroom, but they remain under-researched in the online context. Aims This study aimed to directly compare student engagement, perceptions and learning following clinical anatomy revision sessions including interactive questions asked using an ARS (Mentimeter) compared to interactive questions asked using videoconferencing interaction only.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study emphasizes the importance of culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and continuous care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents during the perinatal period (from pregnancy to two years after birth).
  • - A scoping review identified thirteen toolkits that provide guidance on implementing these care models, with key principles like collaboration, holistic care, and safety, while noting that no single resource covers all three concepts comprehensively.
  • - The research indicates a need for a synthesized toolkit that integrates all three care approaches to better support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families during the crucial first 1000 days.

  • - Over the last 20 years, the prescription of opioids for noncancer pain in the UK has risen, leading to concerns about associated harms; thus, individual patient needs must guide opioid prescribing policies.
  • - A study analyzed data from over 3 million opioid prescription episodes from 2006 to 2021, finding that most patients were women (61%) and aged 45 and older (77%), with musculoskeletal conditions being the primary reason for new prescriptions (80.8%).
  • - The findings indicate that nearly 75% of new opioid prescriptions were for musculoskeletal pain, particularly conditions like osteoarthritis and low back pain, suggesting a need for better policies that promote nonpharmacological treatments where the risks of

Introduction: Anesthesia choice during the procedural management of suspected renal colic during pregnancy may vary based on available resources and patient or provider preferences, as there are no specific recommendations. Our objective was to evaluate whether preterm birth (<37 weeks) was associated with anesthesia type, anesthesia timing by trimester, or procedure type.

Methods: We retrospectively identified pregnant patients who required procedural management with ureteral stent, percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN), or ureteroscopy (URS) for suspected renal colic based on laboratory and imaging findings from 2009-2021 at our center.

Breakdown of lipid homeostasis is thought to contribute to pathological aging, the largest risk factor for neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Cognitive reserve theory posits a role for compensatory mechanisms in the aging brain in preserving neuronal circuit functions, staving off cognitive decline, and mitigating risk for AD. However, the identities of such mechanisms have remained elusive.

Before the COVID-19 public health emergency, few genetics providers used telehealth. As a response to this, many genetics providers began conducting telehealth care, referred to as telegenetics, usually with guidance from their institutions but without specific guidance related to the uniqueness of genetic services. The Telegenetics Workgroup of the National Coordinating Center for Regional Genetics Networks convened a panel of experts in the fields of telemedicine, genetics, and genomics to review the existing literature on telegenetics and synthesize best operating practices for medical geneticists, genetic counselors, and metabolic dietitians providing telegenetics services.

To address high rates of mental health and developmental concerns facing young children ages 0-6 in the United States and internationally, providers across professional sectors need Infant and early childhood mental health (IECMH) training and support. The training and teleconsultation program (TTP) is a state-funded program developed in one Mountain West state in the United States to provide free IECMH training and teleconsultation to any provider working with young children. The TTP included access to webinars and individual or group consultation with licensed mental health providers.

Background Choledocholithiasis is a common surgical presentation with an incidence of 8% to 16% in symptomatic cholelithiasis. Treatment often requires a multi-stage approach via endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), which can prolong the length of stay (LoS) and expose patients to unnecessary risks. A single-stage procedure, such as LC with common bile duct exploration (CBDE), is a safe and effective option that may decrease LoS.

Dementia is a common cause of disability and dependency among the elderly due to its progressive neurodegenerative nature. As there is currently no curative therapy, it is of major importance to identify new ways to reduce its prevalence. Hypertension is recognised as a modifiable risk factor for dementia, particularly for the two most common subtypes; vascular dementia (VaD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Background: Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Symptoms are mostly aspecific, making it hard to identify, and its diagnosis is usually made through blood gas analysis. However, the bulkiness of gas analyzers prevents them from being used at the scene of the incident, thereby leading to the unnecessary transport and admission of many patients.
