It is important to provide opportunities for nursing students to learn, practice, and observe these skills, which are needed to navigate challenging work environments. This article describes the impact of a resiliency curricular component in a grant-funded BSN elective course, Concepts of Primary Care.

Hygge practices embody joy, peace, mindfulness, coziness, and conviviality. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive condition with complex therapies and physical limitations. Little is known about how hygge practice may impact individuals living with CF.

The impact of Florence Nightingale's visionary work continues to influence the delivery of nursing care in the contemporary emergency department (ED). Her foundational work in the Crimean War resulted in data-based recommendations for using the environment to promote healing and wellness among sick and wounded British soldiers. She advocated for attention to environmental details, including ventilation, air, warmth, drainage, cleanliness, natural light, and low noise levels.

Curricular and Clinical Innovation Engaging Undergraduate Nursing Students to Build a Resilient Primary Care Workforce.

Background: Primary care health settings provide access to services for underserved populations, yet baccalaureate (BSN)-prepared nurses are currently underutilized on the primary care health care team.

Problem: BSN curricula often focus on acute care settings for clinical experiences, and students may not be aware of the scope and impact the RN has in a primary care setting. This gap in experiences may lead to overlooking primary care employment opportunities.

Gamification of Primary Care in a Baccalaureate Nursing Education Program.

A grant-funded undergraduate nursing elective was designed to increase the bachelor of science in nursing-prepared nursing workforce in primary care. We created a board game to engage students to address complex needs of clients in primary care. Using patient scenario game cards, students identify and discuss levels of prevention, social determinants of health, and resiliency principles as they move along the board.

Promoting Sustainable Nursing Leadership: The Nightingale Legacy.

The year 2020 features the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. Her legacy is often recalled as simply being "the lady with the lamp" who cared for sick and wounded British soldiers; however, her impact on the nursing profession includes serving as a role model for many leadership behaviors and strategies that have positively impacted the health of communities and populations around the world. Through her tireless endeavors, Nightingale exemplified many leadership roles, including advocate, change agent, interprofessional collaborator, and visionary.

Use of high-frequency ultrasound to detect heel pressure injury in elders.

Purpose: To examine the usefulness of high-frequency ultrasound (HFU) to detect heel pressure injury in geriatric medical patients, to compare the prevalence rates of visualized pressure ulcers with the prevalence of hidden injury, and to determine whether HFU could assist in predicting the development of heel pressure injury.

Subjects And Setting: The sample comprised 100 medical patients who were aged 65 years or older, had a Braden Scale score of 10 to 17, and remained hospitalized 28 days or less. Participants had at least 1 heel free of visible pressure injury.

Using positioning after a colonoscopy for patient comfort management.

Nurses are taught to place patients on their left-side postcolonoscopy to facilitate passing of flatus and relief of bloating, but there was no research evidence found to substantiate the use of that position. This study's purpose was to determine which position (left lateral, right lateral, or supine) was the most effective to encourage passing the insufflated room air and provide patient comfort after a colonoscopy. Sequential selection was used to assign one of three positions (168-174 patients per position) to 512 postcolonoscopy patients.

HIF prolyl hydroxylases in the rat; organ distribution and changes in expression following hypoxia and coronary artery ligation.

Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) regulates expression of genes involved in adaptation to hypoxia and ischemia. Three prolyl hydroxylases (PHD1-3) underlie oxygen-regulated destruction of HIFalpha chains. We have investigated the organ distribution of the PHDs in the rat, their regulation by hypoxia and changes in local expression after experimental myocardial infarction using RNase protection assays, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry.

Creating avenues for relative empowerment (CARE): a pilot test of an intervention to improve outcomes of hospitalized elders and family caregivers.

The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a family caregiver-focused intervention program (CARE) on the outcomes of hospitalized elders and their family caregivers.
