External Validation of SHAPE Score: A Score to Predict Low-Risk Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding in the Emergency Department.

Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) frequently leads to emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations, encompassing a spectrum of outcomes from spontaneous resolution to intrahospital mortality. The purpose of this study was to validate a scoring system designed to identify cases of low-risk LGIB, allowing for safe discharge from the ED. A retrospective analysis of all gastrointestinal bleeding cases presented at three EDs in 2020 was conducted, focusing specifically on patients with LGIB.

Effects of preprandial versus postprandial nutritional insulin administration in the inpatient setting.

Aims: Hospitalized patients can have inconsistent nutritional intake due to acute illness, changing diet, or unpredictable meal delivery. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether implementation of a hospital-wide policy shifting nutritional insulin administration from pre-meal to post-meal was associated with changes in glycemic control or length of stay (LOS).

Methods: This retrospective study performed at a community hospital evaluated adult inpatients receiving nutritional insulin across three time periods.

Methods: A systematic review was performed by searching PubMed, the Cochrane library, and Embase using PRISMA guidelines to identify studies that analyzed the biomechanical properties of bone tunnels (BT), cortical buttons (CB) and suture anchors (SA) techniques for pectoralis major tendon repair. The search phrase implemented was 'pectoralis major tendon repair biomechanics'.

Immunotherapy Use Prior to Liver Transplant in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, and its incidence has increased rapidly in the United States over the past two decades. Liver transplant is considered curative, but is not always possible, and pre-transplant immunotherapy is of great interest as a modality for downstaging the tumor burden. We present a review of the literature on pre-liver transplant immunotherapy use in patients with HCC.

Gastric intestinal metaplasia development in African American predominant United States population.

Background: Gastric cancer significantly contributes to cancer mortality globally. Gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) is a stage in the Correa cascade and a premalignant lesion of gastric cancer. The natural history of GIM formation and progression over time is not fully understood.
