Case report: Hypertrophic lichen planus initially misdiagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma.

Fewer than 26 case reports describe hypertrophic lichen planus (HLP) misdiagnosed as cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). It can be difficult to distinguish between HLP and cSCC, as these two conditions share many clinical and histopathological characteristics. Patients who are misdiagnosed with cSCC often undergo unnecessary medical and/or surgical interventions before receiving a diagnosis of HLP and improving on HLP-directed therapy.

Differentiating hidradenitis suppurativa flare from infection in the emergency department and recommendations for transitioning care to the outpatient setting.

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a painful and often progressive inflammatory skin condition that presents with papules, nodules, abscesses, and tunnels in the axillary, inframammary and anogenital regions. HS can be difficult to differentiate from a skin infection, such as a bacterial abscess. However, differentiation between the two is important as management of hidradenitis suppurativa often requires long-term follow-up and specialist care.

Fever, Rash, and Cough in a 7-Year-Old Boy.

A 7-year-old boy presented to the emergency department with fever, cough, congestion, abdominal pain, myalgias, and morbilliform rash. Several aspects of the patient's history, including recent travel, living on a farm, exposure to sick contacts, and new medications, resulted in a wide differential diagnosis. Initial laboratory testing revealed leukocytosis with neutrophilia and elevated atypical lymphocytes, but did not reveal any infectious causes of illness.

Apple cider vinegar soaks do not alter the skin bacterial microbiome in atopic dermatitis.

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis is a common skin disease characterized by altered cutaneous immunity in which patients often exhibit lower skin microbiota diversity compared to healthy skin and are prone to colonization by Staphylococcus aureus. Apple cider vinegar has been shown to have antibacterial effects; however, its effects on the skin microbiome have not previously been well-described.

Objectives: We aimed to examine the effects of topical dilute apple cider vinegar soaks on Staphylococcus aureus abundance, skin bacterial microbiome composition, and skin bacterial microbiome diversity in atopic dermatitis participants compared to healthy skin.

Hepatic Artery Thrombosis and Takotsubo Syndrome After Liver Transplantation - Which Came First?

BACKGROUND Takotsubo syndrome is a transient, reversible, stress-induced cardiomyopathy that affects only 1.4% of liver transplant patients and can cause complications, including cardiogenic shock, arrhythmia, and thromboembolism. Hepatic artery thrombosis is also rare, affecting just 2-4% of these patients, but can have disastrous consequences.

Background/objectives: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition associated with high transepidermal water loss, high skin pH, and Staphylococcus aureus skin colonization. The treatment of AD with bath additives remains highly debated. Recent evidence suggests that dilute apple cider vinegar (ACV) may improve skin barrier integrity in AD, but its safety and efficacy are not well studied.

One of the key dynamics of interest in these in vitro studies has been the extent to which cultured networks display properties indicative of learning.
