Euro 2012 European Football Championship Finals: planning for a health legacy.

The revised international health regulations offer a framework that can be used by host countries to organise public health activities for mass gatherings. From June 8, to July 1, 2012, Poland and Ukraine jointly hosted the Union of European Football Associations European Football Championship Finals (Euro 2012). More than 8 million people from around the world congregated to watch the games.

Comparison of the heat shock response in ethnically and ecologically different human populations.

In response to heat shock or other metabolic insults, an increased expression of different heat shock proteins (hsps) and, in particular, members of the hsp70 family is observed in human cells. Using two-dimensional electrophoresis, we compared the pattern of hsp70 synthesis in human fibroblast cell lines isolated from two contrasting groups of individuals. The first group was represented by native Turk-men living in the hot desert of Middle Asia; the second group consisted of Russians living in moderate climatic regions of European Russia.

Inhibition of phytohemagglutinin-induced lymphocyte proliferation by dexamethasone: mechanisms of individual susceptibility.

Direct positive correlation has been shown between the level of stimulation of peripheral blood lymphocytes and of the inhibition degree of PHA stimulation by dexamethasone. On the basis of this correlation we subdivided all the examined individuals into three groups of susceptibility: resistant, sensitive, and intermediate. The studies carried out in these groups showed that the reception effectiveness of glucocorticoids (GC) was much higher in the sensitive group than in the group of resistant individuals.
