Multi-biomarker pattern for tumor identification and prognosis.

In last decades, the basic, clinical, and translational research efforts have been directed to the identification of standard biomarkers associated with the degree of malignancy. There is an increasingly public health concern for earlier detection of cancer development at stages in which successful treatments can be achieved. To meet this urgent clinical demand, early stage cancer biomarkers supported by reliable and robust experimental data that can be readily applicable in the clinical practice, are required.

Interventions for central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) of the jaws.

Background: Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) of the jaws is a rare benign tumour with an unknown aetiology accounting for up to 7% of tumours in the mandible (lower jaw) and the maxilla (upper jaw).

Objectives: This systematic review focused on assessing the effects of primary non-surgical versus primary surgical interventions or any other treatment or placebo for treating central giant cell granuloma of the jaws.

Search Strategy: Relevant randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were identified from the Cochrane Oral Health Group's Trials Register (July 2009); CENTRAL (The Cochrane Library 2009, Issue 3); MEDLINE (1950 to July 2009); EMBASE (1980 to July 2009); and LILACS (1982 to July 2009).

Paracoccidioidomycosis: report of 2 cases mimicking squamous cell carcinoma.

Paracoccidioidomycosis is an endemic fungal infection in Latin America. This mucocutaneous disease often involves the oral mucosa and may clinically resemble other infectious and neoplastic processes. Paracoccidioidomycosis that clinically suggested squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed in 2 patients with a history of heavy alcohol and tobacco use.

Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma of the mandible.

This article describes a case of clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC) in a 55-year-old woman who presented such a tumor extending from the midline of the mandible to the right first molar. The tumor was surgically excised and has not recurred or metastasized 6 months after surgery. To date, only 33 well-documented cases have been reported (including the present case) in the English literature.
