Background: Dietary intake is a modifiable factor linked to short-term and long-term health. The Healthy Eating Index (HEI) is an objective measure to assess diet quality and population-level comparisons, like military to civilian.

Objectives: This study aimed to characterize diet quality of early-career and mid-career female soldiers compared with that of age-matches and sex-matched civilians and to link indicators of cardiometabolic disease risk to dietary outcomes and health status.

Detection of carbapenemases in Enterobacterales susceptible in vitro to meropenem.

Introduction: Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) is a global threat. We evaluate the prevalence of CPE among isolates categorized as meropenem-susceptible, but that meet the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) screening cut-off values for carbapenemase detection, and analyze the susceptibility of these isolates to new available drugs.

Methods: We analyzed 257 isolates from patients hospitalized in a tertiary hospital in Brazil, from July 2022 to April 2023.

Nosocomial outbreak due to a novel sequence type of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter seifertii.

Background: Acinetobacter seifertii, a member of A baumannii-calcoaceticus complex, can be considered a pathogen of concern due to the presence of resistance genes. The aim of the study was to describe an outbreak of carbapenem-resistant A seifertii among neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at a tertiary care hospital.

Methods: All patients with carbapenem-resistant A seifertii diagnosed and admitted to the NICU from June 2023 to October 2023 were included.

Importance: The alpha-2 agonist xylazine is increasingly detected as an adulterant in illicitly manufactured fentanyl. There is concern that xylazine may be responsible for an emerging pattern of necrotizing wounds among people who use drugs, but the clinical features of wounds associated with xylazine remain poorly characterized.

Objective: To systematically characterize the location, wound bed surface, and chronicity of wounds among persons with confirmed xylazine exposure.

Multiple species robustly respond to humidity cycles, and when the humidity cue is removed, their rhythmic behaviors continue, suggesting that humidity-associated rhythmic activities are under circadian control.
