This review of the literature discusses the solution of unresolved issues related to carotid endarterectomy in Russia: (1) A program has been created for choosing the tactics of revascularization of patients with simultaneous atherosclerotic lesions of the coronary and carotid arteries; (2) Using the methods of computer modeling, studying the genetics and morphology of restenosis, it was found that the classic carotid endarterectomy with plasty of the reconstruction zone with a patch is an unsafe type of revascularization; (3) An eversion carotid endarterectomy with transposition of the internal carotid artery over the hypoglossal nerve has been developed, which makes it possible to prevent damage to the latter during repeated carotid endarterectomy for restenosis; (4) It has been established that carotid endarterectomy is associated with a high risk of complications in patients over 75 years of age; (5) It has been proven that emergency carotid endarterectomy in the first hours after the development of a stroke is not safe because. combined with the maximum number of all non-favorable cardiovascular events; (6) 3 new types of carotid endarterectomy with carotid glomus preservation have been developed.

Article Synopsis
  • Hydropic Ear Disease (Menière) causes vertigo due to fluid buildup in the inner ear, known as endolymphatic hydrops (ELH), but reliable imaging has been limited to high-field MRI (3 T) until recent advancements.
  • This study explores the feasibility of imaging ELH using a lower magnetic field strength of 1.5 T and aims to create specific grading systems for cochlear and vestibular ELH.
  • A retrospective analysis of 30 patients revealed clear imaging results at 1.5 T, showing promise for wider use of this imaging method in clinical settings.

The article presents the results of investigation of prevalence and prognostic significance of socio-hygienic risk factors of acute endometritis in 187 patients with this disease and 150 patients with non-complicated postnatal period. It is established that development of acute endometritis is associated more with quality of life indices, early (up to 14 years of age) onset of sexual activity, presence in anamnesis of medical and spontaneous abortion. These risk factors should be considered in the process of prognosticating development of acute endometritis.

New features of instabilities driven by energetic ions are revealed. It is found that these instabilities can affect plasma heating and rotation by channeling the energy and momentum of the energetic ions to the region where the destabilized waves are damped. Because of the energy channeling, the plasma core may not be heated by the energetic ions even when these ions have a very peaked radial distribution.

We have demonstrated a method of producing nanoplatelets or complex well-ordered nanostructures from silicon carbide (SiC) whiskers. Preferential etching of SiC whiskers in a mixture of hydrofluoric and nitric acids (3:1 ratio) at 100 degrees C results in the selective removal of cubic SiC and the formation of complex structures resembling a pagoda architecture. Possible mechanisms governing selective etching are discussed.

Enhanced plasma heat conductivity in the presence of kinetic Alfvén waves (KAW) is predicted theoretically. The enhancement is shown to be strongest when the electron collision frequency exceeds the particle transit frequency in the wave field. Alfvén waves (both KAW and ideal MHD Alfvén eigenmodes generating the KAW) are studied in a shot of the Wendelstein 7-AS stellarator.

Chronic administration of neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (30 mg/kg) to C57BL/6 mice caused death of all animals within 7 days. Dipeptide analog of neurotensin active site injected with this neurotoxin protected the mice from death even after 2-week intoxication. When younger mice and lower dose of neurotoxin (25 mg/kg) were used, all animals survived, but after 2 weeks they developed parkinsonian syndrome with muscular rigidity, akinesia, decrease in motor and explorative activities.

It is found that an m = n = 1 mode with amplitude exceeding a certain threshold can lead to stochastic motion of energetic ions in tokamaks, the large orbit width particles (potatoes) being most easily affected. An n = 1 mode can redistribute particles also in the absence of stochasticity but only when the perturbation is quickly switched on/off, e.g.
