Successful Treatment of Recalcitrant Actinomycetoma of Gluteal Area with Combined Medical Treatment and Surgical Excision with Graft Reconstruction.

Mycetoma, formerly known as Madura foot, is a chronic, localized, gradually increasing in size, granulomatous exogenous infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue with risks of bone and visceral involvement. It is unevenly found worldwide but it is endemic in tropical and subtropical countries. Two groups of mycetoma exist with similar clinical presentation; eumycetoma due to true fungi, and actinomycetoma due to aerobic bacteria from actinomycomycetes species.

Sea Urchin Granuloma of the Hands: A Case Report.

Penetrating wounds from sea urchin spines are marine injuries that may cause morbidity in humans. Seasonal fishing for abalone in Dhofar is associated with an increase in the number of these injuries, as divers may strike their extremities, especially the dorsum of hands and fingers, on the rocks where Echinoderms and juvenile abalone are anchored. The immediate effect of injuries includes pain, edema, bleeding, erythema, and rarely systemic complications.

Severe Nodulocystic Acne not Responding to Isotretinoin Therapy Successfully Treated with Oral Dapsone.

Nodulocystic acne is a severe form of acne which can result in significant damage to the skin with great impact on quality of life. Oral isotretinoin considered to be the best treatment for such cases. Although it has a high rate of success and its efficacy is well established in the treatment of nodulocystic acne, it may occasionally fail to control the disease.

A Case of Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Successfully Treated with Low Dose Intravenous Immunoglobulins and Systemic Corticosteroid.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), a severe form of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, is an acute life-threatening adverse drug reaction with a mortality rate of approximately 30%. Primary treatment of TEN is usually supportive. The use of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and corticosteroids are still uncertain, as there are only a limited number of studies comparing the usefulness of these treatments.

Diclofenac-Induced Photo-Onycholysis.

Onycholysis is the detachment of the nail plate from the nail bed. If drug-induced, it can be an isolated phenomenon, but it may also accompany or follow a cutaneous phototoxicity reaction due to drug intake and exposure to ultraviolet irradiation. Photo-onycholysis is a rare photosensitivity reaction due to exposure to either a natural or artificial source of light.
